Picked this album up out of a bunch of jazz CDs at Half Price Books having never heard it before. Well worth the $5.99.
After seeing Phoenix live with Beck on the Summer Odyssey Tour, I decided to finally give their most popular album a listen.
Wasn’t as big on the reggae moments, but everything else was amazing.
I didn’t know what to expect when going into this, but I wasn’t disappointed. At all. I don’t even know what else to say.
Very mature sound for a debut. This makes me feel like I’m in first or second grade, running through a snowy neighborhood on a snow day using my imagination and creating stories as I go along.
Prepare to become depressed.
Favorites: The first one, Bloodhail, Who would leave their son out in the sun, There Is No Food, HFS:40,000.
The rest I can’t remember liking that much.
This is a fun album. It has some cool ideas and the production is wonderful. Some of the songs kind of drag the album down a bit, but it’s still a cool experience. Cinematic, dark, spooky.
Best: If I Lead, The Hustle.
Some really good songs, some really boring songs.
Favorites: American Idiot, Jesus Of Suburbia, Holiday, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, St Jimmy, Wake Me Up When September Ends.
Some good tracks, some mediocre ones as well. It’s a mixed bag.
Best: Pana-Vision, The Smoke, Free In The Knowledge
