Brain aneurysm: the album.
When I first heard this album when I was younger before Converge, Botch, Deadguy, etc. it totally rewired my brain. I still don’t think there’s anything that totally sounds like this either.
Boundaries had not developed their sound entirely yet and still have lots of beatdown undertones but every track hits like a fucking brick. The final song is possibly the most poetic Matt has ever been and that’s saying something.
In lieu of not being able to make the Orthodox show last week I decided to give this an entire spin because I hadn’t really listened to it entirely. Their last record I enjoyed but felt something was missing but this is just pure moshy metalcore and incredible front to back.
I usually hate nostalgiacore but THT does it so well. They sound like Panic except they’re actually a punk band playing pop.
Sort of wish I liked this more because the hardcore grooves and breakdowns are pretty insane but the vocals and lyrics didn’t do much for me.
Belmont is such a one of a kind sort of band. Hard to label and hard to tell if their material warrants what they do musically. On my end personally I love it.
There’s no denying Misery Signals influence on metalcore as we know it and especially on bands that I adore. In this case though I find that MS is one of those groups that I love more in theory than practice. That’s not a dig on them because I enjoy listening to them just not as much as their successors.
As a massive fan of A7X’s self titled growing up I never really dug far back into their early metalcore days so I was surprised to hear the gothic elements mixed with the melodeath riffs. Some songs go on a bit too long for my taste but overall was a pleasant surprise.
Call this pop punk all you want but this was way ahead of the curve on what emo bands are doing today (One Step Closer, Anxious, etc). Blends pop sensibilities with melodic hardcore with personal stories and does it very well.
When I was younger I felt ND was a bit too derivative for me considering all of their peers were going in different directions with pop punk. After years of neglecting them I decided to revisit this and I enjoyed the hell out of it. The sound is nostalgic but still very original, not a single bad track.
Deathcore with a math grind mask on. Furiously fast and devilishly chaotic.
This is some truly wacky shit. Describing it would not do it justice. Every couple measures I had a “what the fuck?” moment (compliment).
