There's the start of a great career here. It's just a shame that there are more misses than hits here.
Is it the best album ever written? no.
But it sure as hell is fun. And has enough staying power to earn its place as a pop rock stalwart.
Poppy's career is one that is far from traditional...or a few years ago, expected.
From making the infamous "I'm Poppy" videos and the like for years, the last place I thought I'd see her go as an artist was down the route of metal, especially her previous Pop record(s).
Fast forward to 2024, we're now at the release of Poppy's latest effort in the form of Negative Spaces off the back her recent, impressive exploits in this field.
This IS the most concise ... read more
Like staring at a white wall... It's alright for a few minutes but after 37 minutes of doing it you kind of sit and think "what's the point?"
Twenty One Pilots have a legion of followers that lap up everything and anything this band seem to put out but the overwhelming sense of disappointment has mostly marred their career for me. Serving as a band I've never saw much of what the fuss was all about.
There seems to be an effort to move away from some of the more wince-inducingly bad lyrics they are known for on Clancy and a decent album exists deep down but its stained by contrived ideas that seem a half way house between a ... read more
This is one of these once in generation albums that make any other album released seem inadequate. Turnover shed their pop-punk roots to create this dream pop meets indie rock masterpiece that while sounding reminiscent of their influences, creates a soundscape so unique you can't quite put your finger on it. Dozens of bands have tried to create their own Peripheral Vision since but none have come close to hitting this mark.
Combining dreamy instrumentals and life-questioning lyrics ... read more
As a life-long FoB fan, this album was a real tester.
Marred with development hell and consistent rumours around the future of the band...it sounds like a record from a band who were on the verge of breaking up. A theory I believe to be true - had it not been for the pandemic that has since seen Fall Out Boy renew their enthusiasm and cohesiveness.
Mania while a bold step, largely fails to land. High points stem from tracks 1-4 with Last of the Real Ones being the only song on here that ... read more
2010's answer to Hybrid Theory. BMTH's path to this record may have been coloured but what eventually came to be Sempiternal represents a seminal album filled with instant classics, and set the cornerstone for metal at its time.
A solid follow up to Overgrown Eden.
InMe set sail once again to deliver a slightly more honed effort. The one downside is that in honing down their material, they lose a slight bit of their grit seen from their debut.
While in no way is this a reason for this album to be overlooked, it, in places, mellows out far removed from instances seen on Overgrown Eden.
There is some really high points on this record but as an entire body of work, it doesn't quite hit the heights of Overgrown ... read more
One of the best and most underrated albums from the 2000s rock scene. Essex rockers InMe pulled no punches on their debut record and this collection of songs is without doubt their crowning moment.
Singles like 'Firefly' and 'Underdose' are both fantastic time capsules from that time, serving up a platter of gritty rock coupled with bonafide pop choruses. Other highlights include Neptune, Lava Twilight and Crushed Like Fruit.
In a sea of peers, InMe and Overgrown Eden ... read more
This album led to Brendon's retirement from music. And in fairness, that says all you need to know.
When you listen to this record, it really does make you question how the hell Maroon 5 ended up going the way in which they did.
This should have been the start of an illustrious career...instead it sticks out like the only shining light in their mire of shit releases.
I feel like this album was a representation of your awkward early twenties era. It's a free-spirited time (which in turn, is good and bad) and you dabble with a few different ideas, some good and some bad. Coming off the back of Pure Heroine and Melodrama was always going to be a tough task.
I do think this album is very much overhated.
This album stopped me from ending it all after a family member passed away. For that, I am entirely and eternally grateful.
I run out of superlatives for this record.
The cornerstone and benchmark for so many fans and artists alike. It literally created a movement for my generation and it has aged like a fine wine all these years later.
A pivotal record.
A band that had a checkered discography but come together to release their most consistent effort as their final swan song.
