This is a pretty good and nice sounding 90’s alternative rock throwback. I really like “Midas”, “Superman”, and July.
This album kind of lacks some of the essence that I think made “Heart of Oak” the album it is. I do appreciate the changes in their sound they made on this album but these songs just aren’t really grabbing me. I enjoyed it when it was on but as soon as it was over I was having trouble recalling much of what happened.
I think this ep could have benefitted from a more consistent tone, but it sounds really nice. Especially the first two tracks. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for their future releases because this duo has A LOT of potential.
I like this album a lot. It didn’t really stick the landing for me but the first 80% is incredible. Really blew my expectations out of the water.
This album is kind of like the first one for me: seriously impressive but suffers from a lot of meandering compositions. A lot of the album feels aimless. Thankfully, for me there a few standout songs that I really like. The first three tracks some together really well for me as well as the closer Upside Down.
This album is incredibly impressive. Unfortunately, for me it kinda falls off during the second half. The compositions feel a bit aimless and don’t come together as well as they do in the first half. Fun album.
This album for me is a really good example of a band maturing their sound without comprising its quality. The whole album has this really nice flow to it. I can put it on and listen through the whole thing effortlessly. These songs are more wholly composed and have really nice full band synergy to them. Me like 👍
This is just whatever at this point in their discography. Swim Good is definitely the best thing here. Stupid Deep is kind of dumb and I ironically like it???? Chainsmokers is still bad when Chainsmokers aren't the ones performing the song. This feels like a nothing burger of an EP.
Slightly better than the album just because it's shorter and has slightly more authentic energy.
Awesome record that utilizes throwback sounds masterfully. A blend of classic rock and country sounds with modern, forward-thinking, and at points unhinged composition and performances.
This is an example of how much presentation matters. I wanna say this is Switchfoot's best sounding recording ever. The songs on the original version that I thought were just eh hit harder here because of the increased production quality. The slow songs here sound MUCH better and more alive than the original. These are still the same songs though, and production doesn't fix all the problems. Pacing issues in songs like On Fire and Twenty-Four are much more apparent to me on this version. The ... read more
If I had to sum this album up in one word, it would be frustrating. It’s never really able to reach its full potential because there’s always something that gets on my nerves. If a song has decent vocals, it has a bad instrumental or mix. And if a song has a good instrumental, it has bad vocals and lyrics. Jon Foreman I think actually butchers a majority of these songs with overly basic and lack luster lyrics and vocal melodies. The only point where I think everything comes together ... read more
There’s only a single moment listening to this that I recall thinking there was something here that was passionate. The rest of the 50 minutes is boring, overblown, and devoid of anything that sounds genuine or interesting. The only thing saving this from being a 0 are a couple of 2s and 3s sprinkled in the track list. I used to love this band when I was little, but this is terrible.
