Pantera - Far Beyond Driven

A couple of months ago, I decided to listen to Vulgar Display of Power out of curiosity and absolutely hated it. Ever since then, my opinion on Pantera has been fairly negative, so when I finally came around to listening to this one, I was shocked by how much I actually like.

Easily, the best part is the production. The band must have been on some form of drugs, because holy shit, is this album ballistic. Every song is super fast and aggressive, never taking a second to slow down, and it ... read more

Pharoahe Monch - Desire

Thank You @AnthonyBourdno for the rec

After 8 years, Monch returned with his sophomore album. As one would expect, 8 years clearly had an effect on him as a rapper.

Monch’s crazy ass, super technical flow is replaced here by more in-depth lyricism and song concepts. Overall, I do appreciate this change; the loss of one of the best flows ever does suck, but Monch is a great lyricist, and I do think the songs here are more interesting than his debut (even if they aren’t better). ... read more

Fuck whoever took this off of Apple Music.

Bad Brains' debut is some of the zaniest Hardcore Punk ever. Every song on here manages to sit in this perfect midpoint between catchy and hardcore. The vocals are super distinctive, and the songwriting is solid. Even the Reggae tracks are pretty great.

My only issue is that you can’t really tell what they are saying without having the lyrics pulled up, also the mixing is a bit iffy.

Freddie Gibbs - RBT

Solid little EP from Freddie.

If these are the throwaways from whatever album he’s got coming next, we might get one of his best solo projects.

Rush - 2112

Thank you @WingsofGryfun for the rec

2112 is technically my first Rush album, but I had heard about half of Moving Pictures before coming into this one.

To get the most important song in the album out of the way first, the title track. To put it simply, the title track is incredible; 20 minutes of some of the most exhilarating Prog Rock ever. I love the fusion between Prog and Hard Rock, I love the storytelling aspects, and the vocals are really good too.

So, overall, the title track is ... read more
