“Cut this picture into you and me / burn it backwards, burn this history”
This is one of the best examples of an artist going pop and not abandoning their signature sound. Sonically this couldn’t be further from Roman Candle, as it feels grandiose and triumphant. However, it’s unmistakably Elliott with the harmonies and excellent/intimate song writing.
Compositionally, this album is Elliott’s smith best and honestly one of the best records ever made. There is ... read more
Growing up in the American Deep South, there’s a certain amount of tragedy that’s ingrained into culture. Highways extend like root systems that transplanted all of the nutrients of rural areas into major economic hubs. While this cycle is universal post-industrialization, there’s an agricultural rot that’s specific to the Southeast US.
This cannibalistic decay is integral to Decoration Day. At its core, it’s a narrative around rural Southern misery. This decay ... read more
It’s weird to think of The Verve as anything but the bittersweet symphony band. It’s kinda similar to blur (except their shoegaze album is half decent) in the way they started out shoegaze before transitioning to Brit pop and exploding in popularity.

There’s a thin veil of shoegaze that, when pulled back, exposes stellar pop sensibilities. This is indulged in more on some tracks ... read more
As I’ve been getting more into shoegaze lately this naturally led to me listening to a top 50 shoegaze singles list. As soon as “Crank” came on I knew I had to listen to this album right away. 1 week and 150 scrobbles later I can confidently say this belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Shoegaze albums with Souvlaki, Loveless, and Nowhere.
Although, ironically some of the things that make it one of my favorite shoegaze albums are attributes that are very unlike the genre. ... read more
Following his 1975 album “Rock N Roll” Lennon went on a 5 year hiatus to raise his child Sean. A nearly fatal boating trip renewed his vigor for life and he decided to start recording music again.
Lennons songs (100)
Ive held the belief that 1968 Lennon is the greatest songwriting year ever for years. Well I think this is the closest he ever got post Beatles. Every song is catchy, pop appeal, and cleverly written. The return to writing love songs after nearly a decade of social ... read more
