'folklore' is taylor swift at her best because she's clearly focused on the strongest part of her craft, the songwriting and storytelling; it is absolutely masterclass. there is not a single dud on this album with "peace" easily being the weakest track, but still respectable for this record. this album is littered with flawless tracks: "exile," "my tears ricochet," "august," "epiphany," "betty," and "hoax" are ... read more
definitely a step down from her previous album, but dua still brings a respectable dance-pop album with 'radical optimism.' there are a few standout songs on the album aside from the singles, like "whatcha doin" and "falling forever," but nothing encapsulates the potential that "training season" has on this record, which is slightly disappointing. overall, i will definitely be revisiting a decent number of these tracks, but the person who let dua release ... read more
raye is an incredibly talented vocalist, and some of these tracks were gems that i know i will enjoy more on future listens; however, i really was not into the talking/monologues throughout the entirety of the album. it was detrimental to most tracks in my opinion, and it pulled me out of the story rather than continuing to engross me within it. im so mad the album isn't just full of songs like "skin & bones," "joy," and "click clack symphony."
most of these tracks felt too similar and recycled from something unknown that was already subpar
‘so close to what’ is tate’s third album that proves that she knows how to make a solid pop project. there’s the typical weaker tracks that could’ve definitely been cut from the tracklist alongside some phenomenal bangers. “sports car” is one of the most perfect pop smash singles in recent memory where tate is clearly in her element. each project tate releases breaks her more and more into becoming a true force in the music industry, and it’s ... read more
i’m very much a lyric-driven music listener typically, so unfortunately, this project just isn’t one catered towards me. however, it was still a delight (most times) to be enamored by the production of most of these tracks, even if i wouldn’t listen to them again. there is definite talent and true art in this project, and tame impala is an artist that i’ll be visiting his other works to find some gems.
'think later' feels like a slight step up for tate in her sophomore project. there aren't as many dips in quality throughout the tracklist, and i don't forsee this aging more poorly than i do her debut on a full project revisit, years down the line. "hurt my feelings" and "want that too" are the standout tracks on this album for me, despite having completely separate vibes, and tate chose phenomenal singles for this project. overall, 'think ... read more
tate mcrae is one of the few artists that i have been there since their debut.. i remember waiting with my siblings for this album and loving it when it released, and even now, it's an enjoyable listen. however, that comes with the caveat that i can tell this album is aging for me and in an unfavorable way. the latter half of this album is where it shines, but the former is very hit or miss, and the misses only get more cringe with time, as you can tell they're tracks on a young, ... read more
'locket' starts off with a weak string of tracks, finds its footing halfway through, and ends underwhelmingly, but it's overall a solid record. when madison's voice is heavenly, the rest of the track tends to be left behind, whereas when the tracks are stronger, she usually doesn't showcase her impressive vocals, which is unfortunate. aside from "you're still everything," which to me is a perfect pop ballad, madison's vocals are wasted on weaker, ... read more
just over a decade later, and 'revival' truly has cemented itself as a pop classic for me. i mean what else can you say when you have such a phenomenal track run as "hands to myself," to "same old love," to "sober," ending it with the song that really popularized whisperpop, "good for you."
while the closing tracks on this album are clearly the weakest bunch, they're still enjoyable listens that accomplish what they set out to do, and the ... read more
'GUTS' is such an excellent follow-up to the monstrous debut from olivia rodrigo, completely shifting sound and doing it flawlessly. olivia doesn't fully shed her pop roots, adding a rock twist to this project that reinforces her songwriting potential. with the fiery rock-infused "love is embarrassing," the haunting ballad "lacy," and "vampire" which is a beautiful blend of the two, olivia goes to places in this project that are so impressive to ... read more
imagine coming out swinging with one of the greatest debut singles of all time, following that up with two amazing singles that each sound different, and then topping it off with the last single and skipless debut album. 'SOUR' is an album that will define its generation and be timeless for years to come... half a decade later, and each song still feels fresh, an outpour of olivia's raw teenage emotion.
this album broke countless records, won plenty of awards, and changed ... read more
do i think that taylor swift deserves to be crucified for making fun pop music with mediocre lyricism like a decent amount of other pop stars do just because she’s lauded as “the greatest songwriter of her generation…” well no. however, ‘the life of a showgirl' makes it clear that taylor is at her best when her songwriting is the backbone for her projects.
this album starts off so strong with its first four tracks, and then it is just downhill from there ... read more
i completely understand why selena says that she feels more comfortable singing in spanish because this EP from her can debatably be her best project. "baila conmigo" is easily one of her best songs, let alone collaborations she has taken part of, and "vicio" is such a good song, that i'm mad there wasn't even more to its excellence.
this project, however, is yet another instance of her label interfering in unnecessary ways that harm the integrity of the work. ... read more
i truly am of the belief that this album was only so poorly received due to the lackluster rollout/single choices and the fact that benny blanco’s name was attached to the project because you cannot convince me that this is a bad album, let alone an album worthy of the low ratings it has here.
the transition from track to track on this album is so seamless and excellent, despite the fact that there are some duds at the end of this album. despite that, it really doesn’t take away ... read more
