Tyla - SHE DID IT AGAIN
55

It's okay but the hook gets a little grating by the end of the first listen. I can't imagine it'd get any better on continuous listens. Zara's verse definetly is the highlight of the song she's kinda the greatest to ever do fun silly pop.

Not for Radio - Bloom
72

Not particularly innovative but a very nice three track project that shows Not for Radio can still put out some amazing songs that really strike the heart. It doesn't have the highs of My Turn or Vueltas off her previous album but it feels just as gentle and healing to listen to.

NCT WISH - Ode to Love
52

Egregiously mediocre and not really what I was hoping for from NCT WISH. They have interesting and fun production in some of these songs and then the rest is just filler. I think some of these could have been better if they played more with the instrumentation. Feel The Beat is an insane standout though and easily the best off the album. Sticky sucks.

FKA twigs - M3LL155X
81

I didn't enjoy this album. It was probably the exact opposite of an easy listen. I was actually quite scared of listening to it. None of the songs will probably make it to my playlist, but it's so impressively evocative and emotional that by the end you just have to sit back and think. One of the best listening experiences from twigs and the fact the bar is even higher and that this isn't her best project is insane.

FKA twigs - EP2
66

Innovative and interesting for the times (as is everything Twigs does), but not great/not my style. None of these songs stood out to me and even the best one (Ultraviolet) does not stand anywhere as highly as Twigs' other best works in a project. Almost done with her discography in its entirety and this will probably end up being the low point.

FKA twigs - Water Me
70

Not great and clearly a bit undeveloped compared to twigs' later stuff but still good! Had to watch it twice because the music video kinda forced me to ignore the song the first time.

FKA twigs - sad day
100

The breakdown on this song is generational. One of the best to ever do it. She literally completely changed my day when I first listened to this and while the rest of the song pales in comparison to it it's still insane. One of her best tracks ever.

FKA twigs - home with you
90

Fuck. Wow. Yeah. Absolute standout on Magdalene which is an already pretty great album. The contrast between her glitchy and raging voice and her vocals are insane and probably one of the best contrasts I've ever heard in a song. Album cover is also gorgeous.

Yves - NAIL
66

I had very high hopes and this is better than Soft Error for sure but it still does fall into some of Yves' previous pitfalls from her last EP (especially with HALO, which just feels like the interlude-like tracks on Soft Error combined into one package). However, the average quality of the album has gone up quite a bit bringing it from mediocre to quite solid. I liked Break it and It a lot, and I could totally see a first full album come from this as it's a very good base, she just ... read more

FKA twigs - EP1
65

Incredibly okay. While it's clear twigs was just starting out with her sound here it still tends to sound a bit empty and had not matured into what we would see with her later works. Ache is the standout here, providing a glimpse into some of her most interesting works in LP1 and Magdalene with the repeating trance-like chorus feeling like branches that climb over you. Other than that highlight it's kinda not much though.

Tinashe - Quantum Baby
68

If the third album is good this is going to end up with terrible middle child syndrome. Not much here of interest outside of No Broke Boys and No Simulation. However, Nasty is a fun little bop that didn’t make it to my playlist. Almost entirely eclipsed by BB/ANG3L in quality across the board.

f(x) - 4 Walls
73

It's good but I really do not think this is the utter masterpiece of K-pop that it gets called. I can totally see the K-pop bible statements as a lot of these songs clearly were the basis for the later year of the genre but this really has a boring middle point and tends to struggle in certain songs quite a bit. I think it ends off great with a really strong 3 track run in Papi and onwards, alongside 4 Walls and Traveler being highlights.

Madonna - Confessions on a Dance Floor
84

Extremely interesting and fun, reminded me of Ray of Light but with an interesting pop twist. The parallels between Shanti / Ashtangi and Isaac were very visible despite being in completely different languages. (Shanti / Ashtangi is miles better though.) However, a lot of these songs tend to end up being a bit long for their own good and I was disappointed in Hung Up considering it's basically her best track according to AOTY. I don't think it ended up in my top 5 afterwards at all.

Latrice - Illuminate
59

It's really hard to understate how okay this is. Like outside of very few songs such as Let Me Tell You Why and Hold The Light it's just not anything special. However there's nothing here I'd consider outwardly bad; it really is The Album Ever. I thought it was really cute though, so it's getting bumped up a little bit. Good listen if you like the genres, probably not a great introductory album if you don't.

GOT7 - Present : YOU
62

Let's just get the solos out of the way! They're. varying in quality to say the least. Yugyeom and Jaebeom clearly have the best of the album's set and BamBam's is... probably my guiltiest pleasure. It's just so shit and poorly autotuned that its instrumental sounds so addictive in comparison. However, that's the lowest part of the album by far, thankfully!

The 5 group songs are pretty similar in quality outside of Lullaby, which is an absolute standout and easily ... read more

NCT WISH - Sticky
25

It's not even good 'NEO' like NCT DREAM's Stupid Cupid or NCT 127's Cherry Bomb. It's just grating. I don't know why this was chosen at all let alone as the pre-release single. I'm only talking about the regular parts of the song too; the dance break is actually just key spamming in Audacity. Their blood may run green but I truly hope it clots soon.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER - 7TH YEAR: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns
66

TOMORROW X TOGETHER's best offering in nearly 3 years that still does not manage to hit anywhere near its peak. Stick With You is a pretty outstanding song and probably the best on the album, and I thought it was a new unique sound for both mainstream K-pop and the group itself.

However, a lot of is kinda just well... filler. Bed of Thorns is the only other song I thought felt was complete enough to warrant praise. 21st Century Romance just sucks. The other 3 aren't really bad, ... read more

Kelela - idea 1
95

Kelela's new industrial sound is. amazing. I don't even like industrial/shoegaze like music but wow this actually just was one of the best songs I've heard in a while. It takes over all your senses and is truly profound and just feels perfect. I feel so much joy from listening to this because it's just so good and so overwhelming and so. wow.

Kelela - Hallucinogen
74

You can tell Kelela hadn't really completely furnished her sound yet with some... interesting songs like The High and Gomenasai making their way in, but when she knows what she's doing she's like literally amazing. Rewind and A Message are amazing tracks and you can especially tell Arca's involvement on A Message brought it to the next level; one of Kelela's best works. All the Way Down is great but the unplugged version on In The Blue Light is honestly a lot better and ... read more

FKA twigs - CAPRISONGS
78

I listened to this a whiiiiiile ago and really loved it, but it didn't really set in for me and I wanted to give this the opportunity to shine that I believed it had. Now that it's been a bit, I can say; it kinda did that! It's definitely a different genre from the other twigs albums, and I think it actually uses her voice most interestingly out of all her albums by breaking the norm. Some of the best songs here are oh my love, minds of men, careless, darjeeling, and of course ... read more

"@Spawnyx they definetly weren’t related yeah but it does feel like SM no longer has a concrete direction for them after the whole thing basically lost all their international fans. It’s confusing and I really hope they get over this slump soon because Lucky was one of the greatest songs from a kpop group last year"
