It's more fishmonger; not much else to say. Basically the exact same hit/miss ratio as the original and keeps the pace exactly as good. I love Girls and boys and Loansharks, they manage to really advance upon the sound that Your favorite sidekick and Bozo bozo bozo did in the original album. There's really not much else to say besides that it's just a really great selection of leftovers and it's very reminiscent of the Wallsocket deluxe.
Definitely good, maybe just not my cup of tea. I think it tends to fall into this pit of "the main genre does not have enough different sounds to create a full album" which causes it to sound a little grating by the end but a lot of this was quite enjoyable nonetheless! I really like UNKNOWN LOVERZ because of the tonal change it gave to the album which allowed it to stay a little fresh but the singles are absolutely the most enjoyable part of this album by far. CRANK, OLD TECHNOLOGY, ... read more
Enjoyable. Boston is by far the best track on the album and probably what you should listen to last if you want to have any chance of really liking the other songs without feeling underwhelmed, but it's like... okay. I've heard much worse and I only really didn't care for one song; that being Lal. eYeSiGht and Eyesight (prescribed) was a really cute and interesting concept that didn't really pan out as interesting as I thought it would be but still really made the listening ... read more
Has possibly some of the worst and best moments on an Ariana record ever. The first 2 real tracks of this album were so bad that I considered just turning it off and pretending it wasn't a part of her discography. However, some of Ariana's best music is here in God is a woman, breathin, and no tears left to cry. It's definitely an... interesting album, to say the least, and it's very enjoyable when you turn your brain off, but I cannot take this album seriously like; at all. ... read more
This album is... trance-y. That's probably the best way I can possibly describe it. It feels like you're being entranced and put into a daze that just keeps and keeps on going, and it does that almost to a fault. Every song has repetition imbued within it, and for some reason, the best songs tend to be the ones that don't fall into this style of song (Two Weeks, Pendulum, and Lights On).
This album feels almost connected to Afterglow in a way, it feels like the newer is an ... read more
Enjoyed this a lot, I think it's not extremely noteworthy but it's a lovely album and INCREDIBLY well produced. Angel on My Shoulder, Cicada, and Um Um are probably my favorites off the album and I love the experimental leaps that Sega Bodega takes with this album. It just feels so gorgeous and emotionally full in a similar vein to Porter Robinson's Nurture.
Album starts absolutely outstanding with the atmospheric vibe of Television and Fading but then kinda... stumbles upon itself? Some of the tracks tend to tread the same ground as previous tracks and some songs just kinda don't hit the ears properly (cough, So Much I've Heard). I think I need to experience more of the Drum and Bass genre to understand it better but I really just don't get it outside of the first 3 tracks + Oh My Love to a point.
It's cute and hot!!! I like it a lot!!! FLO really was hungry for some of Destiny's Child's music and it comes through in this track. Despite not really leaving a lasting impact on me, I still thought it was a really strong track and could very potentially be a hit. The pre-chorus was definitely the highlight here and it truly just shows off their vocal power. However, I wish they leaned into a few more typical verses because a lot of the song tends to feel a bit same-y after the ... read more
Actually insane. underscores' time as an artist has had its ups and downs, and I personally didn't like Wallsocket enough for a lot of the songs to end up on my playlist. This time, she goes for a more electronic direction instead of the rock sound that Wallsocket was filled with, and it pays off.
With the exception of Bodyfeeling, every single album here feels full and compelling and gives me a separate reason to listen to it. Despite the short 34 minute runtime, it feels ... read more
I listened to this in preparation for underscores' third album U and liked it a lot more than Wallsocket. I know Wallsocket is a lot more of a story driven album but at some points (cough, Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) it tended to give a lot of priority to the story over the music. When it wasn't or managed to balance it out was the highlight of the album, and fishmonger feels like that. Every track is bouncy, electronic, and gets a little crazy from time to time, and it feels amazing. I love ... read more
I mean, it's not much better than Debut on average. It's a little less grounded and goofy like Debut was, instead leaning towards more of the Bjork sound of Homogenic that ends up as more electronic, and it works in her favor. However, the standouts here are simply some of Bjork's discography highlights. Isobel is an absolute trip within a song and makes you feel absolutely out of this world, and It's Oh So Quiet is just gaudy and goofy enough to feel like a song from a play ... read more
It's really not talked about enough how insane it is to have Smooth Operator as the opening track on your debut album. One of the best to ever do it. While this album tends to get a little same-y overtime, her voice is so gorgeous and sophisticated feeling that it just ends up becoming a really moving moment. Cherry Pie and Smooth Operator are highlights for sure but a lot of the songs here also stand great on their own. The whole thing flows together so well and just feels amazing to ... read more
Probably P1Harmony's most solid and consistent offering since their debut in 2020. However, I still don't think that it stands anywhere near the music quality of their 2024 EP SAD SONG (which in my opinion still holds their magnum opus).
They keep shooting themselves in the foot with their title tracks, having an amazing set of verses built around a pretty mediocre to terrible chorus. We'll have to see if UNIQUE is able to shake this curse off on future listens, because for now ... read more
Lacks a lot of what made Essentials as good as it was, especially in certain tracks like Miss and Moan. It feels like an understandable evolution of the sound she's cultivated over the past years but it isn't a great evolution and overall ends up falling flat except for some of the more "powerful" tracks that end up as highlights in the album (such as Delusional).
My introduction to this album was first in 2021 almost 5 years ago, when that meme of Peter Griffin dancing to Immaterial started to take off on TikTok. I loved the song and I saved it for a long time and it stuck with me. I could have listened to the album then, but I'm glad I didn't, because of how far ahead SOPHIE's sound was at the time. I wouldn't have understood it then.
Later, in 2024, I learned about Ponyboy and Faceshopping through internet memes and culture, and ... read more
I thought this album would be a bit more considering the praise it got on here, but a lot of the songs end up falling completely flat and feeling adjacent to Bella Poarch's horrid 'Build-A-Bitch' song. IG in particular is the worst of these and just really feels like a desperate attempt at making coworker music appeal to electronic music fans.
However, the wildly lackluster first half is quickly somewhat made up by Dog and Really Hard; two standout songs that feel like ... read more
Most of what I knew about Bjork was from her absolutely insane feeling junior album Homogenic, so coming back to this felt very much more fun and casual and just felt like an experience. While I don't think it's the greatest stuff ever and I think it's honestly a little bit overhyped just because of Bjork's legacy, it's still a very fun experience paired with a fun little cover that stares at you throughout the listening.
Crying is a highlight here that I didn't ... read more
While it won’t be remembered by me for years and years or leave an incredibly lasting impact, it was a really fun listen and I truly enjoyed the first half of it a lot. The second half tends to drop the ball a little but the climax of When I Needed You manages to bring it back really well and embody the time period it released in, letting it end on a high note.
All of this is so outstanding. My favorite is probably What U Wanna Do? because of the way her voice glides over the synths, it's just so ambient and healing that I'd love to listen to this on a walk or something. This entire album just feels like something I could come back to over and over again and pick a random track to listen to. Outstanding debut especially without a label I really can't say anything negative except for the fact it wasn't like groundbreaking. Just ... read more
A pretty boring EP with basically no meat that was clearly made with the intention of breaking into the market. However, they know how to use their vocals to where not all of these songs are bad, with Dancing Queen feeling like the obvious next iteration of Last Call from their 'SAD SONG' EP. The highlight here is for sure Stupid Brain, which while nothing special, manages to capture a lot of emotion and ends perfectly to where it brings the EP rating up a lot and evokes quite a bit ... read more
