detahjae - FLARE

Genuinely thought the singles were his best work yet, and the last track is really good too, but man, does the rest of the album disappoint. I'm still rooting for detahjae, the highs on this album are still more than enough to have me excited to see what he does next. I hope he gets more consistent with his beat quality, digs deeper into the personal aspects of his writing, and works on some of the punchlines of some bars a bit more next time. Still think he's really good and I'm ... read more

I love noise

Monty.pk - deadbeat

I fucking love this project, broken in two is a notable drag down but holy shit counting is brutal

I'm glad JID has someone as big as Eminem consistently shouting him out and trying to bring more people in but god damn does the song bring down this ep. Eminem's style just feels aged, and the fact JID tried to match it makes it his worst performance on this project. Behold goes so hard though

Alex Unknown - Dreams Like Patchwork (Leave Me Rough Around The Edges)

quality wise his best work, every song is devastating in its own way

Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA

Unfortunately, the sound on this album does not feel fully developed. The songs here range from incredible to something that sounds like it belongs to a much earlier Tyler album. You can hear how the attempt was made to mix the conceptual sound of Igor and the raw sound of Mr. Morale but in my opinion, the sound ends up wildly inconsistent.

Black Pontiac - Ponyboy 2

A strong showing from everyone's favorite boy band. The E.P. much like their debut album has tracks that clearly sound better on speakers and tracks that clearly sound better with headphones which can make listening to the entire E.P. in one sitting a little jarring but all the songs are sonically very strong

A$AP Rocky - TESTING

At first, the album seems keen to present a new interesting sound but it quickly seems to make its nest in this sound, not wanting to expand past its original pitch. A good listen, but could really use more variety.

Saint Motel - The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Enjoyable songs that feel like they lack substance. It really feels like the type of music you turn your brain off to.

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)
51

Eminem's dive into a complex concept album comes up mixed. While his rapping talent on this record is undeniable the track list was very hit or miss. You can get interesting high quality tracks such as Guilty Conscience 2 and the album's best feature and best Eminem verse on Fuel, a track I would argue rivals some of Eminem's best work ignoring the uninspired chorus, but at the same time, you can get tracks like Habits and Road Rage, tracks so bad that they fully take you out of ... read more

It's good, really good

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers

This album is an incredible example of art for the artist, not the audience. This album was not made for my entertainment and it was not made for yours, the album was made to help Kendrick come to terms with his audience, his art, and himself and it's beautiful because of this. Looking at this coming from an album like DAMN. or a song like Not Like Us I can understand why it feels so jarring but in all honesty, I really appreciate seeing an album that was made without paying mind to the ... read more

Lilac Boy - Dissident Blue

Some of the tracks on this album are great, I honestly love the first tracks, with them sounding like chill vibey Electronic noise music mixed with some distorted British alt rock vocals. Sadly it really does feel like, after Fungus Bop the record takes a shift in quality. I still enjoyed Hawskbill Odyssey, but the rest of the tracks felt middling to bad and left me longing for that more unique sound I got at the start of the record. I do like the ocean theming though.

It's truly sickening listening to someone who can create such beautiful music create something so truly awful. Sonically the album ranges from painfully boring to painfully awful, Ye's rapping skills sound equivalent to those of 3rd grade boy in a British prep school and the lyrics are so incredibly awful. While I can understand those who still listen to Ye's previous work as his disgusting insanity is not on full display I am unable to understand those who can stomach listening through this ... read more

Creative Differences - KIDBOY EP

An extremely enjoyable listen. The sound of the album is much more aggressive than the band's previous works and I think it works perfectly, while I enjoyed every track on this E.P. the title track felt out of place tonally compared to the rest of the track list, and I felt myself wanting a bit more from Don't Slip. On the other hand, Lookaway is an incredible opener for the project, No Love is my favorite song of the band's so far and Permission is an incredible jump song, all in all, a good ... read more

Creative Differences - WAVESHOES EP
97

A large shift in sound for the boys at Creative Differences Waveshoes is one of the most interesting projects I've heard in a while. It's arguably the band's most unique project to date, blending the sound of electronic music, hyperpop and alternative rock. The project also feels like it's the most fully realized of the band's lyrically, exploring multiple different concepts throughout the track list including topics like addiction as well as ideas such as looking at the realm of the living ... read more

The emotion and rawness within this album is truly inspiring. I will say, the second half of the album feels much weaker than the first half, mostly due to Indigo’s choice to make less risky decisions in the sound of many of the tracks on the second half. A raw performance of a generic song is not something you hear often and in all honesty is not something I’d recommend seeking out. Despite these downsides I do truly believe that this album has so much to offer its listeners. I ... read more

JID - The Forever Story
99

One of my personal favorite albums, The Forever Story not only experiments with its sound far more than most modern albums but also serves as such a fascinating lyrical dive. Thematically the album explores JID’s come up, but instead of being filled with unfiltered ego it is a critical and sometimes brutally honest look into his past, only getting more personal as the album goes on. Because of how intertwined JID’s life has become with his career the album also serves as a ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR

Igor is an incredible album, almost every track feels unique in sound and purpose and Tyler’s uniqueness is really on full display. While I don’t think the album is perfect this album far outshines Tyler’s previous work and makes me very excited for Tyler’s next venture into this more experimental rap sound.

Tyler, The Creator - Flower Boy
58

While I am a big fan of both Call me if you get lost and Igor, I can’t lie and say I wasn’t hoping for more from Tyler’s critical debut. There are plenty of songs I enjoyed off this project: Foreword, Sometimes, See You Again, Boredom, 911/Mr.Lonely, November and Glitter are all great tracks. My issue arises with the rest of the tracks as not only did I not find them to stand out very much but I found many of them to be quite grading with a personal least favorite being ... read more
