Los Campesinos! - Romance Is Boring
74

A lot of the first and middle portion of the album just ranges from okay to pretty good but it definitely starts to pick up near the end.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine
89

An ambient, atmospheric delight that's grown off of me a bit, but still having a stellar track list.

94 -> 89

Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
100

My first introduction to Danny Brown's solo projects, and what an incredible experience it was. First off, the entire album throws you into his spiraling mentality and it is quite depressing, with his heartbreaking anecdotes fueled by his many addictions, his misery is insanely palpable.

Atrocity Exhibition is also peak experimental hip hop with its dark and gritty production throughout, along with his depressing songwriting, especially in songs like Ain't it Funny, White Lines, and ... read more

Jean Dawson - CHAOS NOW*
95

Yet another fantastic release from one of the most underrated artists on aoty: Jean Dawson.

The perfect album to throw on and get hype to with its aggressive approach to indie rock, succeeding in bringing a beautifully abrasive and chaotic sound with its infectious production along with his talent in creating insanely catchy chorus's.

92 -> 95

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
91

This is my introduction to Vince Staples and man what a first impression. His potent lyricism combining with great rapping and insanely hard hitting punk beats blend together masterfully producing an incredible listening experience. Bravo Vince.

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
30

Peggy please get off the internet (Derogatory)

I'm sorry but this album just fucking sucks, crazy how Peggy can title an album "experimental rap" yet provide almost nothing of value with its "strong suit" being he can SOMETIMES produce a decent beat, but then deliver the same boring and uninterested flow every song. And my god Peggy just cannot take criticism whatsoever, he releases some actual slop from the trough and when people say he released bad music he has to ... read more

Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
93

This album makes me feel so bittersweet with its excellent production and her amazing singing, she does such a great job delivering a somber yet lively atmosphere that I can't get enough of. Every time I revisit Punisher I come out appreciating a new aspect and loving it even more than I did originally.

90 -> 93

By Storm - My Ghosts Go Ghost
93

One of the best album's to come out this year. The powerful and symbolic lyricism over their deliberately slow flows making you sit with the raw emotion being put on display throughout the album is absolutely heartbreaking yet beautiful.

90 -> 93

you are an angel - it's fine to dream
90

A very underappreciated album imo, the three track run of kate said, you are an angel, and escape your hometown by any means necessary is so peak.

88 -> 90

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
100

A must hear Psychrock album that has been an earworm for me since it came out, and a standout deviation from Yachty's usual sound.

The soundscapes that are created through the production are spectacular, perfect album to throw on and vibe to with it's seamless transitions song to song. One of my favorite albums of all time.

twenty one pilots - Clancy
90

An album that's grown on me a ton. Consistently great indie rock album that has a ton of hard hitting instrumentation and catchy lyricism, These white boys sure can create bangers when they lock in.

85 -> 90

I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - RAZZMATAZZ
73

Pretty solid album with some pretty good instrumentation throughout. A good chunk of songs aren't too memorable but some of my highlights include New Invention, Need You Here, and the title track Razzmatazz.

73 -> 73

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
100

Tyler, The Creator is my favorite artist, and I have been a fan of his since cherry bomb over a decade ago at this point. To see his career blossom into what it is today has been a treat and it all culminates in my personal favorite album of his: IGOR.

IGOR is a conceptual breakup album that follows the character of Igor and his love life with an unnamed closeted man who cannot commit to their relationship due to fear of accepting who he is and his identity, eventually leaving Igor to be with ... read more

Baby Keem - Ca$ino
68

Some really High high's from I am not a Lyricist and No Blame being some of the best songs in Baby Keem's discography but unfortunately some really low low's, especially some very uncharacteristic misses from Kendrick's features on Good Flirts and House Money.

70 -> 68

IDK - e.t.d.s. A Mixtape by .idk.
76

A really solid mixtape that grew off of me a bit unfortunately. Still some really hard hitting songs like FLAKKA, CLOVER, and DEViL.

86 -> 76

underscores - Wallsocket
91

Fantastic concept album from Underscores about the lives of three girls in the boring small town of Wallsocket, Michigan.

The album is layered with amazing genre-bending production as well as incredibly potent lyricism making it a must hear album.

johnny johnny johnny is one of the most gut wrenching songs I've ever heard. 88 -> 91

Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World
91

Magdalena Bay come out with an album full of lush synths and heavenly production, Dreamy and ethereal vocals that are endlessly entertaining to listen through providing a great mix of atmospheric catchy earworms with some of my personal favorites being The Beginning, Chaeri, and You Lose!

88 -> 91

67

A decent collection of songs that doesn't have many standouts ends up leaving me a sense of longing for something more.

My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
92

A Fantastic conceptual rock album that is full of insanely hard drum lines, very dense and potent lyrics and phenomenal vocals that takes us through the story of a man who dies from cancer and his journey through the afterlife.

Sonically amazing project from MCR. What the hell happened on the last song?

Danny Brown - Stardust
87

Danny brown's experimental production and rapping continue to be top notch on Stardust as well as featuring a plethora of great features across the hyperpop scene and the goat Quadeca.

Across the album you can tell Danny is in such a better headspace with his sobriety and it is reflected in both his more uplifting lyricism across songs like Book of Daniel, What You See, and The End and really upbeat, punchy and lovely production.

Other than a few songs on the album I generally think are ... read more
