A great album for sure, one that was a daunting but rewarding album to fully engage with. The first 2/3s of this album are fantastic, although I do think that the final 3rd could have used a bit more tightening in order to make the album a bit more concise since songs like Casablanca and The Sweet Prince don’t really add much to the overall sound or themes of the album. Speaking of the themes, they are strong and powerful and, even if I personally don’t totally agree with the ... read more
Kinda went in one ear an out the other. A pop album that is so adamant that it doesn’t want to have any pop bangers on it is pretty doomed if the artist making it isn’t all that talented to begin with (cough).
Yeah, this could have been better. Honestly I just think it’s a lack of memorability that makes me just not care about this project at all. Like, I’ve listened to it at least 5 times and I still barely remember anything outside of a few random bars. Not Denzel’s best work, not bad by any means but I definitely think this could have been better
David Bowie is an artist that ages like wine, meaning the more I listen to his stuff the more I like it. With that said, I really enjoyed my time with Hunky Dory. There’s some serious artistry and craft at play with this record and Bowie’s singing and writing are so good. Life on Mars? is so incredible I created a playlist of 10/10 songs just so I could catalogue that first listen. Not everything is perfect, there’s some spots where the artistry and creativity go a little too ... read more
Just as good as, if not better than its predecessor. Meteora delivers on the aggressive rock and techno fusion we love from Linkin Park, but this time with a slightly cleaner organization and style. There’s even more experimentation here, with far more rapping and sampling present among certain tracks such as Nobody’s Listening (a personal favorite), while still have the incredible riffs that make this band so great. Absolute banger and a total classic from the 2000s.
I can see the potential and the hunger here, but there’s overall just not a lot to latch onto with this project. What’s good is good and what’s really good is really good, but outside of the handful of songs that got popular online and the odd decent track here or there, Alligator Bites Never Heal is an album I appreciate more than I like.
I think there’s something specific about Gorillaz that just doesn’t totally click with me, which is kinda unfortunate considering how much I love some of their songs. This album is super cool, a really fun genre-bender that has elements of techno, EDM, hip hop, and synth present and many bangers, including the all-timers like Rhinestone Eyes, Empire Ants, and On Melancholy Hill. I like this album, it just doesn’t click with me as much as it does for others.
I can understand why LL COOL J was a big deal in 1985. The production and flow are surprisingly creative for this time when hip hop was in its infancy, and even though this album feels incredibly old and outdated by today’s standards, it certainly is a defining album that helped to shape hip hop as a genre. It’s good, maybe a bit archaic by today’s standards, but it is good. It’s also quite funny I might add as well.
Once Baby Keem gets out of high school he’ll probably be a really good artist. There’s a lot of really great production choices and themes on this album, I particularly love Ca$ino, I am not a Lyricist, and Circus Circus Free$tyle, but Keem spends way too much of this record talking about sex and it honestly turns me off from liking this album as much as some other people do. Kendrick feature kinda sucks lowkey. It’s good, but I still feel like Baby Keem struggles with to make ... read more
A solid soundtrack for a movie I have not seen. I get the impression that these songs work better in the scenes they are in as opposed to just on their own, but I still like it overall. This is a very interesting direction for Charli XCX to take an I’m curious as to what will come of it in the future.
Jermaine Lamarr Cole, how I love to hate on thee. Truth be told, most of my clowning on J. Cole is just rage bait, however I do feel that he is wildly overrated as one of the ‘best of all time’, not that he’s bad but I’ve jus never seen him to be on the technical level of someone like Kendrick or Tyler or the commercial level of Drake or Kanye. He’s just kinda always been there, an artist who is in many ways good and in other ways a little disappointing. Enter The ... read more
Holy crap this album is so good. Chester’s vocals are incredible, like how do you DO that with your voice? The instrumentation as well with the combination of nu-metal, rock, rap, and even some glitch hop create such a unique sound for this band. Every song is a banger. It’s always a good thing when the one really popular song you already know on an album ends up being one of your least favorite tracks on the record (not that In The End is bad by any means, I’m just saying ... read more
Again, Duke Ellington comes through with a really cool jazz album from the 50s. If I’m ever not feeling Masterpieces by Ellington, I’ll fall back onto this one instead.
Yeah this is a piano jazz album. I like the piano sounds. They sound like a piano.
Yeah this is a really cool jazz album. I love the big band sound and if I ever need a jazz album to throw on I guess this’ll probably be my go-to.
Yeah, it’s a jazz album. Sounds nice overall, but I really don’t have anything that I can say about it other than I like jazz an this is definitely jazz.
Yeah, THE GOAT is a solid trap album from the early 20s and not too much else. There’s some bangers, there’s a few songs that are kinda mid, but overall it’s a fun time and I can definitely see someone who is more nostalgic for this sound than me having a fantastic time with this record.
Yeah, I don’t know what to make of this one. I think it’s good, but it’s so unlike anything I’ve ever heard before that I genuinely don’t think I’m equipped to be able to give a proper review of this record. Nothing I’m planning on coming back to, but perhaps my appreciation for this group will be able to grow as I learn more about them and this particular sound they’ve created here.
I’m pretty new to metal, but from what I can tell this is a pretty basic, stock generic metal record with a handful of highlights here and there. Good start at least, but it really feels like a relic of 2007 and not too much else.
