To be fair i set my expectations REALLY high but this is just disappointing to me… most of the tracks were on par with the worst on melodrama and the fact that it runtime of 35 minutes with no transitions makes it feel empty when it finishes. David is a good closer but tracks like Clearblue and GRWM kind of feel lifeless, and the lyrical quality, while remarkably vulnerable, didn’t have enough time to accomplish anything in the verses before rushing to the chorus. Great soul album that takes its time with the progression of the songs. Beautiful instrumentations and songwriting that blew me away. Not a single misstep.
I often wonder when listening to this album, what was Carly trying to do here? After Kiss, was she making EMOTION just for the chance that she’d get another hit, and not be known as the “Call Me Maybe girl” the rest of her career? Or did she know she’d make the best pop album of 2015?
