Yard Act - Where's My Utopia?
61

For the majority of this album it felt as though this band were yet to find their sound. The lyrics were clunky at times and the instrumentals were a bit boring to me. But then when I got to BlackPool Illuminations, I was blown away? Which is so weird looking at the track ratings for this album. Overall I want more of the latter half of this album and less of the "quirky" tracks like fizy fish, bu tI think it's good?

Mount Kimbie - The Sunset Violent

This is just beautiful perfect music. Thank you Mount Kimbie.

I didn’t know what to expect but I super liked this, lots of range in the project, and it still feels cohesive,

samlrc - A Lonely Sinner

While it may be technically brilliant or whatever this just gives off super pretentious vibes…. I can’t explain it. I know it’s not for me, I find it boring, and it’s just a bunch of noise…

Boys Noize & Rico Nasty - HARDC0RE DR3AMZ
60

Cool and fun but realistically it’s only two songs… and I really miss the aggressive tone from Rico….

Trippie Redd - genre : sadboy

I do think there’s some semi interesting moments, most of them being from Trippie Redd. But MGK really just sucks….

Gesaffelstein - GAMMA
58

I like the first half but he kind of lost me when it went into a bit of a hardstyle techno direction… that’s more taste that it being genuinely bad

Beyoncé - COWBOY CARTER
65

There’s some solid moments here, but I find this project soooo boring especially compared to Renaissance… I was hoping for more

Tyla - TYLA
73

When I first listened to this album I thought it was a bit boring but upon revisiting it has a lot more going for it. Sure the sound can be repetive at times but she’s good at it, and it’s her debut? Its solid but I hope for more in the future

Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU
86

You just had to be there didn't you....

The Dare - What's Wrong With New York?
87

Everyone review bombing this as if its not just a good time. Live and let live dawg

Matt Champion - Mika's Laundry
96

Once again a super biased review but this grew on me so much over the year, I genuinely can barely find any faults in it.

27

I can't lie this shit sucks...

Which is weird, I thought the opening track had a semi decent sound to it? It's as though Joyner said "yeah I can make a good song but I actually just don't want to"

So so boring and generic, with some proper cringe bars...

Fred again.. - ten days

First half is soooo good, but it does drag a bit towards the back half. What he does for/with music is genuinely unbelievable sometimes, and I do think he is owed his flowers for this one. The project is a great concept and while the back half might not be as strong for most including myself, it is still a great little project

Rex Orange County - The Alexander Technique

"I can't tell if I'm the stranger
Sometimes I feel like the tree"

*Expect me to update this to higher in the 90s*

This is a lot heavier than a lot of Rex's previous work and rightly so. I don't know what I was expecting from this album, but I did expect one or two more upbeat songs. However the lack there of makes sense, not only within the running of the album, but in the context of things. Rex taking the time to sit down and get out how he well and truly feels ... read more

Hozier - Unreal Unearth: Unheard
85

I'm happy there is a re-release of this album with new tracks because it ultimately got lost in the mix last year, and wow. I was well and truly missing out. It has the sleek sultry Hozier moments, some of the souly rocky moments, but it has a more intimate melancholy tone akin to his first album, with even better lyricism in my opinion. I think I, Carrion (Icarian) might be one of the best structured and written songs I've heard this year, truly stunning.

It does have some valid ... read more

FLETCHER - In Search of the Antidote

There are so many moments that are pretty amazing throughout this album, especially within the Bridges of some of the songs, but overall, this album is just such a bland contribution to music. While some of the lyrics try to be a bit witty, instead it just becomes a bit of an eye roll. It just feels like a borderline parody of a teen movie.... and at 30 years old it feels a bit weird? like this feels like something someone in their late teens would be making but instead this is a fully grown ... read more

Elbow - Audio Vertigo

After listening to so many bands and artists who were prominent in the 90s/00s try and bounce back this year with a new release, this album was super refreshing. They aren't trying to modernize their sound and appeal to the new masses. Instead they have opted to maintain their mature sound with a renewed energy. I think this is much better than their 2021 album, and it was worth the release, unlike some other albums of a similar stature this year. (I'm looking at you Kaiser Chiefs)

Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future

I didn't get this album on my first listen, and then I noticed some songs from it pop up on playlists and I found myself starting to enjoy them a lot more. Now relistening in full for this review, I really loved the album. It is rough around the edges to the point it just feels intimate. The lyricism is simple but efficient, and overall it is such a beautiful melancholy album. I can see why this is people's contender for aoty, and while it might not be my personal favourite, I think I ... read more

Tierra Whack - WORLD WIDE WHACK
82

I love Teezo Touchdown, but for everyone who loves him needs to put respect on the OG. Tierra has been the queen of weird R&B/Pop/Rap for some time. Yes it has it's weird moments, but I do think it works most of the time? Underrated to say the very least, tackling some really heavy topics and themes. Deserves more love imo....
