It's a solid album to begin with but it loses what makes it so compelling at the start, that being said it is a prime example of how the singer-songwriter genre can be done well.
This is my first time listening to Kacey Musgraves, but I enjoyed it for the most part (Not you Anime Eyes) and I would listen to most of these tracks again, and more from Kacey. Feel like she could have more to offer.
It is such a downer to think that JT will never live up to the highs of the 20/20 Experience ever again, or even to that of his early music.
A few problems stick out here, if you took out some of the better tracks, it would still be mid but it would be upper mid, 60's maybe even 70's rating... (Technicolor, Selfish etc.)
The run time of an hour and 17 mins is a bit excessive when you're really doing a copy and paste formula for 18 tracks. If we once again compare to the 20/20 ... read more
I just really did enjoy this, it's not trying too hard and it's super fun, my only complaint on this project is the Cardi B feature on Never Lose Me, I think it is such a downgrade from the original and SZA's contributions
But yeah, I lowkey loved this, it's ultimately a nice little project
I get why he's done it, but I often feel like things would have been better if he just didnt? It's totally underwhelming...
I think this project at times can be very hit or miss, it covers a nice range of genres in it's tight 22 minute run time, and while I often enjoy the unique vocals, sometimes they do fall a bit flat.
Ultimately this is not a bad project, but I do wish it was a bit more put together since it has a lot of potential to be something great?
This is what I wanted from the acloudyskye album I spun yesterday, and with the weather getting more moody, it is a really welcome project that I intend to revisit a good bit. It is big sad album but it is big good.
way too happy clappy, pitch correction over used to an annoying extent where it loses all edge completely. Didn't like it the first time, and sure as hell didn't the second. No wonder he got back together with Noel after this outstanding flop.
Not sure why but I realllllly enjoyed this one. Perfect length, great features, maybe production wise and lyric wise it could be a bit generic at times but it's done really well to the point where you forget it's been done this way before? Likey
Over hated, but is it deserved? I do think there is a bit of oversaturation right now with the whole Jack Antonoff production, but I also think that it's not always fair. He has a lot of musical flair and talent. And in an era where a lot of people want nostalgic pop hits, like it or not he is meeting that demand, and if it wasn't for the whole T-Swizzle thing, I don't think people would hate half has much.
That being said, it is crazy to me how he seems to have lost his knack ... read more
Such a solid project, but drags a bit at times (track 9, 10 and 11 in particular being a bit of a slog)
I also wish we had a Denzel or Danny Brown feature, the production would've fit both of them soooo nicely.
Overall very good, have revisited a lot of these tracks since it's release
I'm annoyed that I had to re-listen to this album to write this review... The instrumentals are so boring, the melodies are predictable, and the vocals are just unbearable at times. Sometimes they're trying to be edgy shouty, others they are using the worst auto tune I've heard in a long time... (Beautiful Girls transposing the vocals up and down also sucks)
I don't know if I disliked it or hated it, but it's bad.
My friend told me that this album is almost like a Jazz album, and since then I've had a lot more appreciation for it. Yes it is repetitive and yes it takes weird choices that feels out of place, but ultimately the tracks blend together in harmony. It might not be universally accessible at all times, but when it hits by god it hits.
I absolutely loved this album. It is by no means ground breaking, but it is a more refined, laid back and mature take on her sound, which is more than welcome. Re-listening to this throughout summer was also bliss, still yet to skip a track and still yet to pick a favourite because I genuinely enjoy them all
It's soooo frustrating listening to anything this man puts his hands on, he has so much technical knowledge of music and does play with some interesting sounds, and live it sounds like his shows have such a nice atmosphere, but they almost never transfer over to a full length project
And every time you feel like you have the start of a nice sound for a song, Jacob will divert in the hopes to create a juxtaposition. But this is never the case. Instead it becomes a mess of too many noises, ... read more
I actually had to skip some songs on this because it just got a bit stale for me.... Its not bad it's just not my taste
I accidentally listened to their 2016 album instead of this so had to loop back around, and the sound of the album feels much more reserved. Although while it might be a stylistic choice, it comes off as bland and lifeless at times... I didnt LOVE their other work but it sure was better than this
I only listened tot his cus I was checking in on all the BH boys and how they were getting on and I was actually pleasantly surprised. This is solid overall with some great moments
The most middle of the road music from Dom which is so disappointing knowing what he is capable of with BH music....
The opener of this project had me super interested with this being my first time listening to acloudyskye, however which each track I just found myself losing moments. With vocals akin to Gary Light body from Snow Patrol, the understated use of them works really well here, but when it is pushed to it's limits for me it becomes a bit grating. It's a decent album but I feel like this sound isn't 100% the right choice.
