Just pleasant in every way! Sometimes going smaller will let you go bigger, I think that is what I feel when listening to this.
I loved LUTL on first listen and still now, find it one of the most enjoyable albums of 2016 - an already renowned year for music. I got into it around 2018 and then heavily anticipated the release of Forever Turned Around, their sophomore record. That album, despite its flaws, in my opinion still packs a punch and has some of their best work, in particular used to ... read more
Saw this live, completely changed my perspective on it. It absolutely rocks!
There is something so enchanting about this mans singing. Its so different, and so different even here vs with Geese. The shakiness of his voice is something to get used to but once you have, it opens up to such a beautiful experience.
AOTY underrates Jack Harlow so much because a lot of his stuff is kinda filler. This song fucks, its so much fun.
The idea that this record is nearly 15 years old has blown my mind. Completely visionary.
Originally I enjoyed this. Upon listening to it further, every single song just sounds SO GOOD. Just everything is so ~pretty~ for lack of a better way of expressing that. All the choices made are so beautiful. Love it.
This is legitimately a good cover. Vocals are on point, fit the song perfectly. Schlatt could have a career doing this if he went full time with it lol
I much prefer this version of the song to the more renown of Mick Hucknalls work. Would recommend to anyone - quite a slow, brooding song, but a good listen.
Starting to do some internet archiving here, figure more stuff could be added to the site to make sure it has a slightly deeper catalog. Started by looking at the earliest recorded instances of "Indie Rock" on RYM - this is one that had yet to be entered onto this site. It's a good fun tune performed by Mick Hucknall, most universally known from Simply Red and the single Holding Back the Years.
You can definitely hear the early idea of indie rock in this song. The guitars sound ... read more
So I did some scouring on webarchive (the wayback machine) to see if I could find how people perceived this album when it first came out. Interestingly, in 2014, this record had a user score of 80 off 217 ratings. In May of 2018, it was 77 from 700 ratings.
In the decade since its release, the perception of this album has soured by a whole unit of score, from 80 to 70. I believe this says a lot more about how peoples perception change than the album actually changing in its substance.

The most interested I've been in a British Alt Rock mainstay from the 2000s in a while! This record has some patchwork, but is largely a well put together, fun record. Nothing groundbreaking, but its certainly a change from recent efforts by the group that sounded quite dull, and lacking colour. Here's to hoping for more similar efforts in the future.
I find myself coming back to this record so frequently, I can't help but constantly bump the score. This album has such a unique sound. It scratches the itch for a modern rock record, taking from the best of modern production, whilst also sounding so *classic*. I would not be surprised if I come back to this in three months and give it a 100.
Nilufer! Possibly my favourite artist in this sort of lane, continuing to reinvent her sound and go from strength to strength. This single is a very strong step in the continued right direction. lyrically potent, sonically interesting and catchy - things only get better for the fans of her music. love this!
Such a fun track! Really really excited for the LP. It's not reinventing the wheel at all but it checks all the right boxes for what its trying to do.
The singles had me feeling like we had something really great coming together but as a whole project, it continues to feel messy and with cheap production which leaves a few grating concerns. The band still feel quite directionless, and I don't know quite what they're trying to do with their sound.
That being said, the highs are phenomenal. Some moments are truly brilliant song writing, and with that I struggle to give this anything lower than a 70. I only wish it was more consistent. Emily G ... read more
Some of the most annoying vocals ive heard on a record in a good time. The actual songs are... okay? decent indie pop but, vocals and the sometimes overbaked production makes this record feel very very stale.
Think some of the mastering on this is a little iffy personally but the song all round is a whole lot of fun. No complaints, the album is set up very well!
