Extremely emotive vocals and melodramatic song writing that makes for an experience that I feel like I’ve already heard before. His intensely emotionally driven voice occasionally misses the mark, but I don’t expect this kind of project to have insanely polished vocals. Sometimes it contributes to the experience, but there are several instances where it just sounds like yelling.
An emotional experience soaked in heartache that is occasionally frustratingly immature, that I still ... read more
“I actually do cuss a little, what’s your favorite cuss word, probably fuck” -MGK on goddamn
People are gonna immediately give it a 0 because it’s mgk.
To be honest, they wouldn’t be that far off. HOWEVER I actually enjoyed quite a bit of the production on this thing. The first half of outlaw overture is FANTASTICALLY produced I just wish it was anyone except MGK on the mic. The rest of them, aren’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. Pretty standard ... read more
Organized like a rock mixtape, mass nerder explores a lot of the same. Fun, throbbing rock instrumentals that get kind of stale as you continue to listen to them. Super skate core. Some cool stuff mixed with some half baked stuff.
Chalked full of post grunge 2000s rock classics.
Shinedown is one of the best acts of this era. STELLAR vocals, great writing, driven instrumentals, yet still somehow not talked about enough. While they certainly miss the mark and sound a bit derivative on some songs, the ones where they bring it all together are borderline immaculate.
Because “homesick” isn’t on this site, I’ll use this ep of songs from that album as a vessel for this review.
Overall, a pretty freaking stellar showing from stranger club. Consistently punchy and fun, with some epic rock refrains. They have their finger to the pulse of the alternative underground. INVEST IN THIS BAND NOW.
Toothless. Really tough listen full of bro country slop. When I hear people say they don’t country music this is how they describe it and to be honest I can’t blame them.
Shaboozy’s meteoric rise is one that will never cease to confuse me. If when you think of country music you think of “a bar song”, I apologize.
Pretty fun, but while the lyrical content differs from song to songs, it sounds like he’s writing the same 3 songs over and over again. It all blends together and there isn’t any wow moments.
While I didn’t think it was bad, I just generally think Hazlett has a lot of evolution to undergo. He consistently encapsulates the same folksy, existential vibes and I think he does a good job. When it comes to just about everything else, I prefer his temporaries that feel less toothless.
But I LOVED when he switched it up on I don’t want your garden.
A great follow up to Clancy. I initially had more volatile reactions to the songs, specifically loving downstairs and REALLY not liking garbage and robot voices. Tyler Joseph and Josh Dunn brought their story to a fantastic close. City Walls is such a satisfying conclusion to the story of Dema, and I think that significantly bumps this up for me.
I understand it’s a mixtape, but I still feel like it needed more time in the oven. Really hoping his next thing hits because I haven’t loved what he’s dropped since sunburn.
Half baked.
People think this is mid??????????? I think it’s rad.
Had kind of a hard time getting into this. The instrumentation is lush and fiery in some places, which I love. but the vocalist isn't my favorite. Some of the songwriting strikes me as immature and grating. Goodnight was a rough listen for me. I definitely think that this group has promise, and this is by no means a cookie-cutter record. I would just like to see some development in some places and have less moments that make me cringe.
Between Friends' best project to date. Don't understand how people are saying they "reheated charlis nachos". This is better, both idea-wise and mix-wise. Full, colorful, organic electronic grooves.
Beautifully written. I enjoyed every song (even if I thought pink lady was kind of annoying).
A solid follow-up to molecule. While I still think the former is better, this is still a solid concept. I don't know how Torr is so consistently underappreciated. The electronic, indie rock, influences mixed with the slapstick sound make Torr an exciting listen every time.
