A fun album to backtrack to after hearing the excellent trio of albums proceeding this one and the departure of original vocalist Paul Di’Anno. After hearing both him and Bruce Dickinson headline this group, I’d say his departure was for the better. While this is far from a bad album or bad performance from Di’Anno, there definitely feels like there’s something missing without the dynamism of Dickinson, and there’s a lack of those soaring highs that show up on many ... read more
This was kind of an interesting one for me. I had exceedingly high hopes going into Powerslave. Can I say it didn’t quite meet those expectations, but it absolutely didn't come close to disappointing either? I feel that it had slightly lower peaks than the previous two albums in this trilogy (That title track, though. God. Damn.) while on the other hand it was also the most consistent of the three at the same time. Maybe the fact that Maiden was firing on all cylinders the whole ... read more
Definitely less consistent than their previous album, but has some very high peaks. Excluding “The Trooper”, I just really wasn’t enthralled with the middle of this album. A handful of just alright and one song I really just wasn’t a fan of. Other than that, another great record for Iron Maiden.
Favorite tracks: The Trooper, Revalations, To Tame A Land (Didn’t think it would make the top 3 but wow the guitar in the last third of this song absolutely rips, great ... read more
What can I say that hasn’t been said about this album lol. Yes, it’s awesome. Yes, Iron Maiden is one of the best bands of all time. Yes, you should listen to it.
Favorite tracks: Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Number of the Beast, 22 Acacia Avenue
Least favorite tracks: Gangland, Invaders
My favorite Slayer album. Yes it’s the least “Slayer-y” album of their earlier stuff, but I think saying that does it a disservice as to just how damn good it is. Slayer’s influences are glaringly obvious on this, Judas Priest especially, but Slayer manages to take what makes those bands great and turns it up to 11. Infinitely replayable and super badass record.
Favorite tracks: Metal Storm/Face the Slayer, Crionics, Die by the Sword
Least favorite tracks: Show No ... read more
