Cassandra Jenkins - My Light, My Destroyer
71

Decent tracks but ultimately not enough for me stay interested for long.

Geese - Getting Killed
32

A diplomatic comment is this was not for me. I’ll stick with that.

Wolf Alice - The Clearing
94

Many superb tracks and even the weaker songs are very good. Quality follow up to the brilliant Blue Weekend, consistently excellent band.

The Antlers - Blight
96

Thought provoking lyrics throughout , the usual sumptuous vocals, masterful melodies, stunning instrumentation, atmospherically gorgeous. The most criminally underated band of all time in my eyes,. If you have not heard of the Antlers listen to all of their back catalogue, geniuses.

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA
83

But a bad album but a few songs I don’t like and compared with masterclasses of LP1 and Magdaline this is a big step down in quality, in my opinion.

Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown
96

Sublime and engrossing from start to finish. Vocals as always from Beth are exquisite, production is superb and all are great songs with 3 or 4 outstanding. Some nods to Portishead throughout which I love.

English Teacher - This Could Be Texas
72

Two great songs but the rest are good, ok or average, in my opinion. Lots of potential but would prefer it if they concentrated on singing rather than spoken word, too much of that on this album puts me off.

Forest Swords - Bolted
95

Excellent from start to finish with some moment of brilliance throughout. As always with this artist fantastic production and an immersive sonic experience.

PJ Harvey - I Inside the Old Year Dying
88

Very good songs all the way through, consistent as always, but not as good as her previous 2 albums.

The National - First Two Pages of Frankenstein
93

Although this is clearly the most commercial album The National have released it’s still packed full of quality. As always the song writing is tremendous and the lyrics are great.

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
94

A tremendous album full of great tracks, quite a few of them flawless. Stunning vocals, amazing production and brilliantly crafted songs. Great stuff.

Devin Townsend - Lightwork
88

This album has many excellent tracks, great vocals, well constructed songs and top class production. Enjoyable from start to finish although it does take a bit of dip in quality in the middle for a few tracks, in my opinion.

Alvvays - Blue Rev
80

All tracks pretty good or very good but nothing exceptional.

Angel Olsen - Big Time
87

The album is consistently very good from start to finish but it still a little bit disappointing it’s not up to the standard of My Woman which was tremendous. Her voice is gorgeous on this album though and I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Björk - Fossora
81

Some excellent songs, some very good songs, some good songs and a few average ones. Not the best Bjork album of her career but she shows flashes of her class throughout.

Wet Leg - Wet Leg
45

Bland vocals, ok instrumentation, ok melodies and awful lyrics. Maybe if I was younger than 12 I could appreciate this but definitely not at my age.

72

The music on the album is good and as usual Beyoncé’s voice is great but the excessive swearing and sexual lyrics are annoying to me. Compared to Lemonade this is a huge step backwards, in my opinion.

Jockstrap - I Love You Jennifer B
87

Some excellent tracks and the rest are pretty good too. Cannot fault the vocals, love the experimentation of the sound and the lyrics are also interesting. I liked the album quite a lot but ultimately could not ‘get into it’ but this band clearly has huge potential.

Ethel Cain - Preacher's Daughter
97

The first time I heard this album some of the songs took my breath away and the others I found intriguing. After many listens now I can advise anyone reading this that (in my opinion ) it is a sublime album full of superb songs. In places the album is harrowing, the overall subject matter of this concept album is grim, but also there are also moments of tenderness and vulnerability that have moved me to tears. Ethel’s voice is a delight, her tone and range is pretty much flawless. The ... read more

Self Esteem - Prioritise Pleasure
74

Consistently good throughout but nothing exceptional and the lyrics are quite banal.
