Very inconsistent album. Goes from otherworldly melodies to bit-crushed farting in a blink of an ear. Still, I enjoyed it more than not.
I only listened to One-X before this point, but I'm quickly becoming fan of their sound. Very powerful music, even though the lyrics are a bit "we live in a society"-ish. (favourite one got to be "I'm only edging, you creeping me" or whatever I heard in the last track) Think this is my new guilty pleasure band.
Usually when the band is over 30 years old, they are expected to produce mediocre albums, consisting of nothing but generic songwriting, reused themes/melodies and/or nostalgia bait. Good to see Deftones avoiding that fate. Still sound as fresh as ever. Out of all the projects that were released today, this one is arguably the best. Can't wait for Fantano to give it a 4/10 because Deftones.
Surprisingly liked it more than the main album, likely because it feels less generic.
Good album, but some trimming would've been beneficial. To be honest, the bloat doesn't really hurt the album that much, but you can tell they're trying to make more/longer songs just for the sake of filling the whole CD. Also, I didn't get a boner during The Boner Track, so minus points for that.
Personally, it's not as bad as most people think, but it's still surreal how these two even collaborated. The spoken word vocals feel really out of place on most songs and the lyrics range from good but weird to laughably bad. Still, Metallica's signature style carries the album hard. It's an interesting album to listen to and wonder what were they thinking. Not sure if I'll return to it, though.
Enjoyable, but only to a certain degree. Vaporwave has such a specific style that most of the songs in the genre feel samey, this album isn't going to alleviate that.
Ten thousand fists in my ass
A bunch of decent but similar songs put together in a forgettable album. At least there is no domestic violence bridges in the lyrics and the album cover doesn't resemble a foreskin.
The album hasn't even been released yet, but I'm giving it a zero because I don't like the author's username. Now I know that it's wrong to rate an album based on external factors that have nothing to do with the album, but that's exactly what the author of the album does on their main AOTY account, so I think it's fair for her to receive the same treatment.
Second half of the album drags on a bit, but even at their worst the songs are moderately enjoyable to listen.
Only 2 ratings and 0 reviews? Wow, didn't know this was so underrated.
Anyway, this album is a pretty great mix of electronic music and rock. The songs are energetic and flow pretty well. The electric guitars fit very nicely with the synths. Most songs have layers with little details that make relistening more enjoyable. Lyrics are kinda random and nonsensical, but that's expected from most electronic albums.
"look guys i'm so quirky, i write all my song titles in lowercase and make the songs noisy on purpose"
Honestly, though, this would've been a great album if not for the poor sound quality.
The Youtube album rabbit hole is real.
Very atmospheric mix of ambient and downtempo.
Amnesia > Tubthumping.
Very good album. Songs are fun and energetic, although the end interludes felt unnecessary; it's almost as if the album is gaslighting you into thinking a new song has started. Some songs have these Moby-style melodic synths, which I really like. There are even some breakbeat influences. The second half of the album in general is more electronic, which I don't mind. Overall, for me this is a very well composed and produced album.
