Once again delivering a consistent record from their previous work, Squid’s experimental art rock sound often intrigues, but occasionally just confuses the listener. There are plenty of layered build ups in the instrumentals that have satisfying pay offs with the vocalist’s unique vocals shouting erratically in your ears. There are moments where the noise can be quite overbearing, and others that struggle to leave much of an impact, but overall, I enjoyed the experience. Building ... read more
Hurry Up Tomorrow is a reflection on a pop star’s tumultuous career and how it has melded Abel into a man that he now wants to leave behind. While nothing truly stands out as being exceptional sonically on this record, with only a few songs providing the rewarding feeling that I had hoped for out of this album, the conceptualism in the lyrics provided deep insight into Abel’s relationship with his career and those around him, which ultimately provided a connection between him and ... read more
An exceptional album on many fronts, particularly the bass and drums throughout, with very unique writing sonically. Most of the flaws for me come from the ambitiousness of the album, as some parts don’t really move me or feel too drawn out, especially on the last track, which also suffers from vocals that I was not fond of at all. Overall a very solid project that I wish I could say more about right now.
Before I say anything else, the atmospherical side of the mixtape was pleasant, that of which weren't sound effects, which is basically what most of this was, so that's promising! I enjoyed the soft chimes and tones that glided throughout the background of the 'chaos'. That's kinda all there is for me to really praise, as this otherwise felt like a student art project (in the nicest way) that had something resembling a soundtrack to it. I read the story and while ... read more
Eusexua is the “I don’t know if what I’m doing is what I want but it feels so good” kind of sexy album. It discusses feelings of wanting a partner she can trust and open up to without fear, wanting to get lost in lust and raves and not knowing where to go from where she’s at, while infusing modern art pop with a nostalgic rave sound that compliments her luscious soft vocals and stellar production. I really enjoyed the experimental approach with a lot of these ... read more
I picked a random album to listen to from the 2000s and this happened to be that album. Pretty safe so say I couldn’t have picked a much better album, this album is beaming with fantastic storytelling, gorgeous vocals and a VERY 2000s production style that was really charming and aged surprisingly well for the most part. There is a definite sense of passion throughout this album as Imogen’s artistic talent translates through her writing and vocals that you don’t hear too often ... read more
Balloonerism brings together what made Mac Miller a celebrated artist among hip hop fans, and reminds us once again of what talent we lost from his tragic death from the very thing that has such prevalence on this album so long ago now. This album is consistently catchy, exploring heavy focus on drug use and thinking about life, as well as death, as he has often done before, in a fairly provocative manner. There will no doubt be better reviews for the what’s and how’s of the album ... read more
I don’t care about any other album as long as the goats CATOP drop ππ Unfortunately no weirdly decent song this time but for the sake of entertainment value this EP deserves my praise because their chaotic energy brings me such nostalgic joy and they’ve managed to progress from painfully unlistenable to just being purposefully dumb so credit where credit is due. Idk why this goofy band has become a band I must listen to and review every time they drop now but I’m not ... read more
God I wish these songs were separate because I’d have at least 2 of them in my playlists, some really surprisingly great material here, an all around pleasant listen. Love the production, the flow was fire, and it was really cohesive despite being pretty chaotic. Around the middle of the EP is easily the best section, super passionate, enjoyable stuff.
Yeah ok this kinda kicks ass. Short review today but Mirar’s brutal thall shredding gave me a ton of adrenaline at first, with addicting guitar work and gnarly drums that seem to never fail to be a great combination. For me it got pretty repetitive pretty quick though and by the end of it I was a little worn out and ready for it to end so maybe it could have benefited from being a tad shorter. Overall, really fun album for a while, awesome style.
Asian Glow makes a surprise return not too long after the last album with what’s likely his most cohesive project yet. This album is a really flavourful collection of noisy, somewhat dark sounding tracks that compliment the winter vibe really well, and sounds passionate and confident throughout. The title track is a highlight for sure, a really catchy, pounding track, made somewhat tense yet provocative through (what I think is) the inclusion of a flute performing the main harmony. While ... read more
Fairly standard indie pop record with little to make it unique but still a passionate record that has great vibes throughout and closes with a few standout songs that actually work surprisingly well. It’s unlikely I’ll return to these songs since they’re slower tracks that don’t offer much value from relistening but I appreciate them for being enjoyable, simple songs either way.
A really groovy listen! Great production alongside a very passionate effort from Childish Gambino for a consistently catchy and often beautiful album, even if it didn’t go to any groundbreaking levels or really catch me off guard. Definitely worth the listen.
Stellar lyricism (obviously), fantastic emotion, and plenty of gorgeous instrumental work. Kendrick does a ton of self reflecting here, treating his music like therapy, and working around it in a very inspiring way, and consistently too. It’s easy to understand why this man is considered one of the greatest hip hop artists around.
Kendrick surprises us all with an album full of goodies. By which I mean, some great tracks that represent his skill and lyrical abilities, some fun tracks that come off as being a bit goofy, and a couple of stinkers. Not bad.
How did THE sad white boys make a sad song that isn’t that great??? Idk, it’s alright, but leaves a lot to be desired. Tyler’s vocals are questionable, it lacks substance, and the way it ended didn’t feel rewarding at all. Still, the lyrics are pretty well written for the series, the instrumentation is very somber and suitable, nothing feels out of place, it just doesn’t really go anywhere interesting. Not a song I’d care to see live, and I’d probably ... read more
You were all right, I was not ready. I knew this had potential to be great but the reality is this may be one of the greatest albums of the decade. It’s hard to understate just how unbelievably well made this album is, from the writing of the instrumentals to the emotional vocals, and of course, the lyrics. It’s not embarrassing to admit that I cried listening to this album, and that’s something that really doesn’t happen very often. Shortly put, that’s because ... read more
I totally get why people aren’t happy with this album. It’s underwhelming, sometimes dull, sometimes not really Linkin Park, but at the same time, I’ve heard way worse rock. Emily is a great vocalist, especially for this style, I really can’t complain about her as the new vocalist, Mike also proves he’s still got it with his rap verses and singing potential too. Songs like The Emptiness Machine and Heavy Is The Crown are rocking bangers with plenty of flavour and ... read more
I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something is missing from this EP that Chaser had that made it so great. Dont get me wrong, REACTOR is still a very solid effort from Femtanyl, with tracks such as WEIGHTLESS! and ATTACKING VERTICAL bringing the flavourful chaotic energy that I was hoping for, it just didn’t leave nearly as much of an impression this time around.
