I’ll keep it brief, RAM is a passionate, cinematic disco album with some really funky beats, emotional electronic robot ballads and groovy synth tracks for days. I almost didn’t stop moving for the whole album because I was either jamming along to the disco bangers or grasping the flavour of the top quality production. The only bummer was Doin’ It Right which unfortunately does not do it right and kinda sucks tbh, but the closing track absolutely felt like a climactic end to ... read more
Are you kidding me. This is so enchantingly gorgeous dude, I’ve missed out on this EP for 8 months??? Well, I’ve found it, so I’m happy. Boasting a phenomenal voice from Keath and fantastic folk instrumentals, this EP is obviously part of a larger story, that of pure love and tenderness. I’m not one for elaborate stories attached to music, but I wholeheartedly encourage this passion to drive creativity if this is the outcome. Obviously it’s not quite perfect as ... read more
Post is where Björk becomes highly experimental through various styles, both loud and quiet, energetic and tame, mysterious and bold, yet somehow keeps the whole thing fairly consistent, which is very impressive. As always her vocals remain confusingly enticing, with a lot of control and emotion in every inflection in her singing. This album absolutely doesn’t compete with the likes of Homogenic and Vespertine but still proves that Björk was made to make this deliciously unique ... read more
I admit I was skeptical about the rating of this album. Iconic band returns after numerous years with an album that could easily be a cash grab that fans are fawning over, probably not the first time, but I sat through and I immediately got put in my place. This album is incredibly passionate and personal, depicting loss, grief and acceptance, performed with the talent that only almost 50 years of experience could get you. Firstly, frontman Robert has not deteriorated or even changed in the ... read more

Some of this album is alright, sonically, but god is this guy so childish and obsessed with relationships, like including a 3 minute rant about your ex fuckin your friend is probably the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever heard on an album. Grow up and focus on your music, man, and maybe try to make it a little less generic while you’re at it.
4 tracks into this thing I felt great, was super into it, the raw lyrics and catchy electronic beats felt so perfectly crafted that it felt almost certain this would be a 90 or higher. And then…it kinda lost a lot of that glimmer? The transition into the less cheerful and more soulful sound seemed to sacrifice the energy that made the start of this album shine. That being said, still really connected to Jean’s desperation and openness here, and there are absolutely still strong ... read more
TURQUOISEDEATH returns with another commendable drum and bass record! When I first heard Se Bueno I was very impressed with what I was hearing, and now here I can safely say that Turquoise has only continued to put a heap of passion and talent into what they do, although much later into exploring music it doesn’t strike me quite as much, and certainly could be fleshed out further or taken to another level as some parts feel too repetitive throughout the album for it to feel like an ... read more
‘Cool World’ started off strong, bringing a fresh taste of Chat Pile’s recognisable sound, but as the album progressed it became more of a case of picking out the cool aspects of songs and then just kinda letting the noise fly around you until it stops. This band has focused on a style and do it well, which I respect, but in terms of personal enjoyment it somewhat lacked the flavour that an album this sludgy and moody would need to make me wish to return to it. That or ... read more
GYBE have created an incredibly personal, raw experience that both blew me away and grasped my heart with such ambition and care that can’t go without praising. Each track has such softly delicate writing that is performed seemingly flawlessly with constant building and releasing in fantastic storytelling, all with simple instrumentals. It’s hard to describe how I felt listening to much of this record because it really speaks for itself, this album is a call for action, a somber ... read more
Coldplay continue to give us glimpses of what once was with some momentary beauty that sadly gets swindled by boring lyricism and painful directions throughout the tracks in this album. They really think everything is sunshine and rainbows huh. The potential is there, but I can’t ever see them utilising it after several albums that just aren’t memorable or interesting enough to make an impact. Please move on from this cheerful slop.
A wildly charming and catchy album throughout. The New Sound is an album that promised great things ever since the first single, Holy, Holy dropped and blew everyone away with its bombastic sound and outlandish lyrics, and the hype was certainly there. I didn’t really care for Blues when it released earlier this week, but it wasn’t enough to put me off making this my most anticipated release of quite a stacked day. After spinning this album once it’s easy to see where the ... read more
This is just shitting on SOPHIE’s grave, what the actual hell did I just sit through. Truly abysmal choices made throughout the album with only a few redeeming qualities, mainly a few tracks on the back end of the album that are actual songs rather than just repetitive, ear bleeding nonsense.
A very imposing album that made a great first impression on me through its desperate, compounding vocals and atmosphere, with great noisy production that feels intentionally gored into you with full intent to make you feel disturbed, but in a way that compels you. Where this album lacks in my personal taste it makes up for by being attention grabbing for all the right reasons. Even though the album did keep my focus, it still struggled to make me feel engaged at many moments where I ... read more
Yeahh that’s my dumbass being late to cool things again not surprising. I kept putting off this show thinking it wouldn’t be my thing (based on absolutely nothing) until the day after the final episode EVER premiered and I was like well I might as well see if the last episode is cool and 30 minutes later I binge watched the whole thing and was messaging people like why the FUCK did you not tell me about how good this is??? Anyway I’m not here to tell you the show is good ... read more
Marianas Trench is literally the definition of theatre kid music. They have always made dramatic cheesy pop rock that borders the line between corny and charming, and this album is no different. Unfortunately a fair few of the earlier tracks on this album are fairly mediocre and hardly push the boundaries for their standards, but some of the tracks on the latter half of the album demonstrate a high level of effort and creative depth, with some cool implementations of callbacks to previous music ... read more
Today has been a triumph for chaotic music. It’s hard to describe what the mess I just heard was, but it was a controlled, artistic mess that really made me say “oh damn, now this is refreshing”. It hardly blew me away like Imaginal Disk did, but there were absolutely some highlights from this year on this record, mainly the tracks ‘STRANGER ALIVE’, ‘LET THE VIRGIN DRIVE’ and ‘FOUND A BODY’. I really hope to hear more bewildering, noisy, ... read more
Hi, here is my initial reaction and review of Imaginal Disk! I found MagBay early last year during my daily album challenge, and adored their debut album ‘Mercurial World’, so this has been a highly anticipated album for me. So far the singles have been promising, but I can’t say for sure if this album will be an improvement on the last. With this being a reaction don’t look here for reference on what songs mean or anything lol. Anyway, here we go!

Please…stop letting Death & Romance and Image be the only amazing songs on this new record, this is not my Magdalena Bay. Like my main issue with Tunnel Vision, this is just too safe and standard, it lacks character. MagBay have all the potential to make a defining album in the synth pop scene, if Mercurial World didn’t already, but this isn’t going to do it. Their whole brand is around simulation and colourful quirkiness and they do it ... read more
Oh my god? This album is just so…comforting, even if the lyrics aren’t exactly cheerful. It’s just such a warm blend of acoustic passion and inviting vocals that feels like it’s giving you a hug and telling you it’s all ok. I had no idea what to expect and it started off like “oh…this is quite nice” and progressively grew on me with every track offering a new flavour of gorgeous indie tunes. I will have to return to this album, because ... read more
