Malcolm Todd - Do That Again
69

I hate to be "harsh" on my rating, but in my opinion, this is pretty generic. What I can say is I'm impressed by his ability to recapture attention; there are tiny moments of poor vocal inflection (IMO), corny, apparent love lyrics, but the progressive, explosive production and guitar, alongside good harmonies, make you forget the track's flaws. Nonetheless, there are flaws, and a lot of these tracks are forgettable, but there will be a TikTok/Social Media hit, that's ... read more

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
79

On first listen, I really appreciate what Vince brings in terms of content and themes. Creating opportunities for me to reflect has always been important, and having an album that discusses and questions the practices of the United States and its trends of entering wars, police brutality, and the consistent poor treatment of minority groups is something everyone should remain in touch with. I WILL NEED MORE LISTENS TO GET EVERYTHING. Moving on, musically, I enjoy the punk influence and ... read more

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
63

Maybe I hate summer compilations and cliff diving, but this was not for me. Almost everything about this album is annoying to me, and the introspective core/content of this album is overshadowed by the screech-like vocals. I can acknowledge that you can hear the influence this album has had on our favorite artist, but while I get the appeal, I do not enjoy it at all.

LE SSERAFIM - 'PUREFLOW', Pt. 1
59

It's high-energy and intended to be fun. It interpolates "Physical" by Olivia Newton-John and "The Macarena". There are catchy moments, and they can be very generic tracks. I also never want to hear BOOMPALA again LOL. It doesn't seem they're taking themselves too seriously, so I hope it's a fun era for the fans and them.

6LACK - LOVE IS THE NEW GANGSTA
69

6LACK is a consistent artist, very consumable, soft, chill. I can understand the appeal, and none of the songs are terrible, but it's just a very stagnant and forgettable album for me. Some of the features have memorable harmonies, but some of the guest verses were very forgettable, yet stuck to the theme.

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
75

Personally, one of the most enjoyable but simultaneously unlistenable albums I've heard this year. Very harsh, but occasionally, some of the drops are very intense and enjoyable for me

태양 [TAEYANG] - QUINTESSENCE
65

It's K-pop; trends will be followed; English will be used (I don't mind it, but I've seen some pushback). There are some standout moments in the production, but it doesn't move me.

Drake - ICEMAN
63

"Fool me one time, shame on you. Fool me twice, can't put the blame on you. Fool me three times, fuck the peace sign. Load the chopper, let it rain on you."

Three albums, the first two absolutely disappointing. As for Iceman, it has its highlights, and I'm a fan of Drake showcasing his ability to slide on a track, and he has the occasional creative wordplay, especially when referencing the NBA. But it lacks creativity, and the production is bland. It's a Drake album, ... read more

Drake - HABIBTI
49

absolutely boring and formulaic, snoozefest, everything I dislike about drake

Drake - MAID OF HONOUR
49

It has energy, fast-paced moments, and is definitely curated more for a club environment, but not for me at all. Not as bad as people are saying though LOLOL.

hemlocke springs - the apple tree under the sea
74

I'm impressed by the production and am genuinely surprised that I enjoyed this. The first three tracks terrified me. I thought her inflection and cadence were annoying, but as the album enters a pop-leaning style, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Still some unforgettable moments, but I will stay up to date on her music.

Kenny Mason - BULLDAWG
71

It's good, shows versatility in production selection and flows, but does it make a lot of impact on me? HELL NO

Isaiah Rashad - IT'S BEEN AWFUL
77

Really good. On first listen, I could point out themes of love, addiction, and family. In my opinion, this is his best-produced album. He stays true to that southern, gritty sound we've grown to love, but adds guitar and is just more dynamic and cinematic at times. Good verses, sometimes the effects on his voice were too much for me, and honestly, the features did not move me at all.

Noah Kahan - The Great Divide
66

Really not for me. There's nothing necessarily wrong with the album's production or vocals in terms of quality, but it's repetitive and sonically difficult to get through.

T.O.P - TOP SPOT - ANOTHER DIMENSION
64

I'm a Big Bang fan, and was excited to give this album a whirl. Based on the translation of the lyrics, T.O.P does a good job of acknowledging the controversy clearly with the Korean media and his personal feelings during his departure from his group. Seemingly telling us he's not on bad terms with his ex-members, but is now focused on his solo career. I will say that the choruses and cadences on this album fall flat and are a little bit dated. I know this is a personal album, but he ... read more

MIKE - POMPEII // UTILITY
68

Being realistic, this is an extremely bloated project. I enjoy Earl's half more. This could be due to my lack of experience listening to MIKE. I found myself not loving his cadence and flow over the minimal production, but I did find a couple of his tracks extremely enjoyable and will check out more.

Thundercat - Distracted
82

Great album. Thundercat is a great example of an artist who does not overwhelm a listener but does enough musically, with harmonies and instrumentation, to keep someone engaged. I also enjoy his writing; he can be introspective and yearning, but also hilarious. Please start an OnlyFans and sell your feet pics, Thundercat.

Kanye West - BULLY
68

Looking at this musically on first listen, this release has some of his best songs since Donda. The production can be aggressive and loud, but it also features soul flips, samples, and interpolations. Writing-wise, there are still moments of that god complex/negligence that we are accustomed to, but I also appreciate the moments of introspection about his controversies and his love for his wife; there's some value in some of his words/opinions, regardless of your views about him, and ... read more

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.
75

Really good, powerful vocals and great cinematic production. Won't really ever revisit this casually, music like this needs full attention but I don't believe that was her intent and she succeeds in her attempt to make a cinematic/play style album.
