Never heard a single Ed O'Brien solo album. This album's scope reminded me of Eno's "Before and After Science" which I have been spinning frequently lately. The vibe is then more akin to "Solid Air" by John Martyn, which is also a fantastic record. The grooves on Obrigado and Teachers groove immaculately, the ambient cuts are fantastic, and Blue Morpho is up there for best song of the year if you ask me. Just beautiful textures, endlessly explorable and ... read more
Not new, I believe.
Cameron Picton used to be part of one of the most exciting bands the scene had to offer and was an integral part of Black Midi, so when that was "iver" it was only time before the two masterminds of the band would branch out and bring their prowess into a new light.
But whereas The New Sound ditched most of the iconic Windmill Scene sound for more exotic influences and theatrics, My New Band Believe wears its roots proud. Something that doesn't work in their ... read more
Sigur Rós, a band that has quickly become my current favourite band since I saw them perform with an orchestra in a beautiful theatre building in Amsterdam, reworking one of their best albums into ambient like Brian Eno with hints of Caretaker liminality. I feel like this album was made for no one but for me.
Gave this a 40 initially because wow this is bad
Then I read some more of the lyrics and man it just gets worse and worse. TTPD was boring beyond belief. This? This is a crime.
With 3 great synth pop albums under their belt, this is one of the most unnecessary releases I have listened to in a while.
It's the Nation of Language I know and love but just so bland and uninspired. I'm Not Ready For The Change is the closest we got to a proper change in sound, but then it's not necessarily well written, catchy, and kinda just feels like a Ringo Deathstarr collab. The album is the Nation of Language goodness, but with a bit of awkward production, no real ... read more

Upon seeing The Yes Album on my screen I wasn't particularly excited. I have never been a huge fan of prog rock except for Rush and In The Court Of The Crimson King (which, yes, I should listen to more King Crimson). But I cannot let my hatred for Pink Floyd get in the way of other bands' shine, and so here I am giving this a shot.
And WOW, what a great time this was. Upon the first few notes I was greeted with that same nostalgic & epic goodness ... read more
The Dutch alternative radio station put me onto The Beaches, as they just wouldn't stop playing Jocelyn every hour. I ain't complaining though: in terms of indie, it is one of the best songs I have heard in a while along with Forth Wanderers' "7 Months". Then when I heard Blame Brett a while later I figured this is a band worth my time. I am sick of tired of the chokehold Wet Leg has on the genre, and the pioneers of your typical comfort food indie like Dayglow are not ... read more
"Short & Sweet" had some real bangers and was a lot more consistent overall. "Man's Best Friend" is the same Sabrina Carpenter sound we all know, just in a terribly unremarkable way. The songs lack real wit, are definitely not as catchy as her previous album, and the lyrics are so obvious and unexciting. You can only talk about the same topics and how horny you are for so long.
This will still do big numbers because some lyrics make for perfect 5-second Tik-Tok ... read more
First to review this apparently. Thanks Apple Music for randomly suggesting this.
Really nice soft and eerily haunting acoustic songs. For fans of early Sprain, a bit of BC,NR and Duster. Can't wait to come back to this!
Listening to Sprain in chronological order is kinda like seeing a manically depressed protagonist completely losing it over time.
And I love it. Especially My Way Out and Worship House absolutely blew me away. Great record.
For a Soundtrack album, this is surprisingly good. The demos are fun, the instrumentals and quirkier tracks are fun, I'm So Tired exists, hell yeah.
This shit fucks. Few songs get me as hyped as Do You Like Me and the rest is just absolute fire too.
This shit is pretty good but the songs tend to blend together a bit. Which makes for a very nice listen, but not an incredibly memorable one. Still, relistens will probably cement this record into my brain better, and the bangers like my mind is a mountain and ecdysis bang.
Stellar production too, idk what people are on about. This scratched my brain on multiple occasions
I was pleasantly surprised by Preacher's Daughter when I first heard it, and Perverts blew me away when I listened to that immediately after. You could say I was very excited to hear this new album, but it was not as exciting, deep or groundbreaking as I had hoped. The slowcore aesthetic that was very apparent on Perverts makes a return, but I'd say not as interesting nor appealing. I felt like the instrumentals on this album are just there to carry the lyrics, but again, not pulled ... read more
