Courtney Barnett - Creature of Habit

There's a kick to this that scratches my brain in the right way. With the context of also having listened to her debut, this album is much less snappy - but rather potent in an entirely different sense. That angst and indie rock feel with the flair of country soundfont works perfectly for the mood she's trying to sell. The lyrics are poignant, and it all coalesces so pristinely that I can't help but adore what Barnett delivered!

She showed up with this absolutely lovely combination of Dance and R&B that is absolutely bait for me. DEAD is such an incredible opener that gets almost trance-y as it progresses, which only leads to more bliss as the project reaches a second peak with THE NATURE OF POWER! I am honestly stunned, and Brittney's third studio album ended up being even more enjoyable than I expected going in :)

This is almost sort of indescribable. The mixture of sounds and themes from the struggles of Venezuelan life and the yearning for the internet that is no longer there fills out the maximalist atmosphere with an overall tone of sadness that... really does just linger in the air. It fascinates me, and in particular a track like MALUCA is even more stand-out with the pastiche of 2000s YouTube in its video. This is... intense, and very staunch in what it represents, and is all the better for it.

All things considered this is a pretty pleasant listen! It made for a great company through my early morning at the very least. While I do enjoy the sound, I do also acknowledge it has some of those clichés that sort of turn me off country more broadly, but evidently I still got something out of the more twangy, vintage sound this project features. Not bad at all!

It's nice! More specifically, I would've preferred more songs to experiment with the sound like the two singles did, but I certainly can't complain about an enjoyable album from front to back.
