twenty one pilots - Scaled and Icy
72

I respect them for trying new things, but most of it just falls flat for me. It's not as bad as the critics say (as always) but it is definitely not worth a second or third listen.

Poppy - Flux
75

This is the first time I've listened to Poppy but I feel like she's not sure of what she wants her music to sound like. Is it a alt-rock album? Then go all in on it. Is it noise pop? Then give us some big distortion and grand vocals. I like this project, but I'd love to see a more aggressive Poppy in the next few years.

Crumb - Ice Melt
78

Crumb's sophomore LP is more of the same, which is fine but I'd love to see them experiment more.

Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST
86

This being one of Tyler's most hit or miss projects talks a lot about how he approaches music and fame.

Kanye West - Donda
87

This is a weird album, it's very Kanye-esque in the sense that is took a long time to drop and we had already heard the album ten times before the premiere, but it's his most different project (don't talk about Jesus Is King, that's not the same Kanye) in the sense that it is cohesive. It has a lot of hits and A LOT of misses. This alone should put Donda as a mid album, but what saves this LP is the impeccable production and most of the features, that shine much brighter that Ye.

Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever
90

Billie's sophomore album is awesome and there are some things that I can see here. First, it shows that see has a keen eye to spot her previous mistakes in WWAFAWDWG, staying away from the things that went wrong there and cashing in on the greatest hits on her debut album. Secondly, Finneas is amazing and he's one of the best young producers of his generation, absolute masterclass performance by him.

BADBADNOTGOOD - Talk Memory
92

The long wait was worth it for BBNG fans. The lack of a core member of the group is very noticeable early on but is quickly dismissed after the string progression that was brought by Verocai, the highlight of the LP (alongside Sowinski, the drummer).

Baby Keem - The Melodic Blue
90

Another great debut by a young artist that knows how to use his fame and connections. Kendrick did an amazing job putting Keem on the spotlight. This is not a "oh, Em is successful only because he had Dre" situation (which is a bad statement already), Keem is the best young rapper of the last few years and his notoriety was already being built before he was known as "Kendrick's Cousin". He has a bright future, he's talented and now the people know.

Ashnikko - DEMIDEVIL
85

This is how young artists should approach the "how my debut album should sound like?" problem. It has much more bops than misses which is the best case scenario for this genre.

93

Lil Nas X is the perfect exemple of a famous artist that used his talent, his vision and his fame to elevate his music. MONTERO is the culmination of years in the making of his persona and how he would approach the most dominant topics of his life in the moment, like his rise to fame and his sexuality. He did an amazing job, this album will definitely be in talks of AOTY in the big award shows.

Low - HEY WHAT
98

This is amazing. I feel like it's my favorite album of the year and the best discovery that I made in 2021. It's aggressive, (very) loud, very passionate and it's an awesome project that fortunately has over 30 years of records that I can dive into.
