Genuinely don't get the disdain for this album. It's practically Goliath's mirror half, and that isn't a bad thing. Even though it's softer there's still tons of hype moments, like Cotopaxi or Teflon or ESPECIALLY Luciforms.
One of the most beautiful metal records ever recorded genuinely. I implore you to listen to this all the way through in one sitting and get lost in it, it's so effing good.
This album makes me go crazy and start running around all over the place and destroying shit
this album walked so that once more around the sun could walk so that emperor of sand could run
It sure is no Celebrity Therapist, but that works HEAVY in its favor. As much as I love their crazy-ass straight mathcore sound on that record, their experimentation here is just so admirable and executed honestly extremely well (ESPECIALLY on the last song... it's so epic...). I also love the whole "museum of failure" concept going on as well. Such a solid release from a band that I think has an extremely bright future.
EDIT: 85 -> 100
Yeah, this has grown on me a LOT over ... read more
its literally every good mathcore artist combined into one super concentrated and heavy short and sweet package. its so good...
Pretty solid. I feel like I'll find myself returning to this project more than ØKAC, mainly because of some better choruses and some really interesting shakeups sonically throughout the whole album. Good shit.
I love the VIBES on this album so much and just the theme and everything. I also love the choice to go in a more melodic direction. The best way I could describe this album in one word is "Gorgeous".
So many stand-out tracks on this. Somehow doesn't get tiring whatsoever throughout its runtime either. Also, this was my first exposure to Deafheaven and it got me into literally the rest of their phenomenal discography.
Honestly, while it's not my favorite style of TMV, I still really enjoy this album. I was iffy on their self-titled but still enjoyed some stuff from it; and this is just their self-titled but better imo.
EDIT:
I saw this entire album live and the live version genuinely might be almost as good as Frances I'm not even joking it was insane
It's legitimately hard to describe it. Just listen to it. It's euphoric, cathartic, and beautiful yet brutal at the same time.
Holy shit this is amazing. My dad showed me this album a while ago around when it first came out and I've returned to it consistantly since then.
Cedric's vocals are a little rough on here sometimes, but the instrumentals are tight and god is this way better than I expected. It definitely feels like a pre-Deloused, and I like it a lot.
Not my type of music at all, but honestly I don't hate it. I commend them for doing something different although it's definitely not what I want out of a TMV album.
ALSO QUE DIOS TE MALDIGA MI CORAZON SHOULDVE BEEN SO MUCH LONGER THAT SONG BANGS
Yeaaahhh this has to grow on me a bit...
Day of the Baphomets is peak tho
EDIT: It grew on me.
I didn't get this album...
And then I got it.
And it's 100% not as bad as people make it out to be.
This album has a really cool atmosphere with all the synths and stuff and there are some great moments scattered throughout (Looking at you, Zed And Two Naughts).
I also find it funny that despite that, I think that the opener is the worst song in their discography. I don't think it hurts the album for me though. I get why it's there.
Some songs here don't quite grip me (I like the latter half of the album better than the first half), but I still think this is one of their best. Amazing album.
