Deloused with some arguably even better hooks. Some of these choruses really bang, but I think it kinda falls off near the last two songs. Still, it's in my top 3 TMV albums.
Edit: Yeah nvm I love this entire thing front to back.
It's... Amazing. One of TMV's best albums.
85 > 95: Grew on me even more somehow.
95 > 100: Ya. It's my favorite album. Ever.
only song i didnt lik was judge judy, but the rest is straight banger after banger with some great emotional cuts in there (the ending to like him is actually heavenly).
It sounds like it was pissed off at me for listening to it and then beat my ass
This album genuinely gets better every time I listen to it, and boy have I listened to it a lot.
I don't think this is as bad as people say it is. It's definitely nowhere near as good as their first two albums but there are some genuinely good moments in this thing. The good songs are The Contrarian, The Doomed, SLATFATF, By And Down The River. The meh songs are Eat The Elephant, Disillusioned, TalkTalk, Delicious, Feathers, Hourglass, and DLB. The only really bad song is Get The Lead Out. I will agree that the cover art is pretty atrocious though.
I think that there are ideas that work on this album and equally as many that don't work. To me, this album sounds like it would be released before 10,000 Days, right after Lateralus. That being said, I feel like this album doesn't do a whole lot of reinventing, which I feel like they should have done. I also think I hear a few riffs that are very similar to riffs they've done from other projects, which considering this took 14 years to make, is kind of disappointing. None of it ... read more
I love how more melody-driven this album is. Vicarious, 10,000 Days, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned, and Right In Two are some of my favorite TOOL songs ever. I think that really my only issues with this album are Lipan Conjuring and Viginti Tres. I feel they don't bring anything to the album and it feels like they were put there as a last-minute thing. Other than that, this album is amazing.
Even if you push aside all of the crazy cool complex math stuff and meanings, the production and overall musicality of this album is STELLAR. Although I will say that Faaip De Oiad and Ticks And Leeches put it down a bit in terms of immersion. Not saying that TAL is a bad song, but still. for sure one of my favorite albums ever.
I wasn't really sold on this project for a WHILE and I just jammed to Lateralus and 10,000 Days for my TOOL fix, but after re-listening to this in its entirety, this grew to be up there with both of those albums for me. I think the interludes actually do a lot for the mood of this album and I think I find Message To Harry Manback way funnier than I should.
Just remember that 1 in 3 Americans die of cancer.
NEW MASTODON. AND IT'S A COLLAB WITH LAMB OF GOD. And... it's awesome. Sounds like something from their Leviathan era and I am here for it. The riffs are great, the vocals are great, and overall just an extremely solid collab and single. Mastdon (& Lamb Of God) rocks hard.
I wasn't really too big into Seether, but I enjoyed some of their old material. After hearing the two singles (Illusion, Judas Mind), I was actually really hyped for this project! Judas Mind and Illusion are great songs (my favorite being Judas Mind). However, upon hearing the album, I gotta say that this is probably the most front-heavy album I've EVER heard. The first two songs (the aforementioned singles) are the only ones I feel bring anything to the album and the rest feel like ... read more
