Completely senseless album. You don't see any growth from their previous nor any foundation for Rust in Peace that is an absolutely PERFECT record. Crazy

I dunno man. Walks a very fine line between very creative post/noise-rock and 4 toddlers repeatedly punching instruments.
I like the first 2 tracks quite a bit: they're odd and repetitive in an unsettling way without feeling tedious or boring. It very quickly turns to bullshit with that 32-minute track which does not justify its length in any way. It's 3 separate droney/noisy landscapes completely disconnected to each other and even taken one by one are quite uninteresting.

I work in a hotel and the 8 versions of this song playing on loop for 12 hours sure make me love christmas.
Despite my deep knowledge in modern prog I had never gotten around to Second Life Syndrome until now,
And whilst it's certainly too much to unpack on a first listen it has left my ear very happy and eager to jump back into it as soon as I can.

I genuinely cannot bring myself to listen to any song here anymore. Vomitingly overplayed to a point that my body rejects it like a bad virus.
I would also argue there is much better Reggae to enjoy but also understand they’re all influenced by Marley
Man I miss Eternity in your Arms era Creeper. Used to have such a kick to it, now it's all booooring ass mid tempo goth rock
Very little to complain about, yet also very little to write home about as well.
Drag Path essentially corrects my biggest pet peeve with Breach which was my opinion that City Walls should have closed off the album alongside Intentions. We now have the two grandest and greatest songs from the album leaving the first and last impression, with Drag Path’s ending feeling like the light at the end of a tunnel.

The pinnacle of why I think Swans is just snobbery is that this critical acclaim they receive is from 90% of users who listen to mostly hip-hop, pop, indie rock etc and then they somehow like Swans. Which is in the realm of experimental one of the most unaccesible bands of all time with incredibly challenging, overwhelming, long albums. It feels more performative than genuine when this is the only band in this incredibly specific type of music that they like. "@4horn Half your citation clearly states that Swans, if influencing bands and genres, is mostly on the niche side of things. Look at the list of bands they influenced, the only 2 with great success are TOOL and Nirvana and both were influenced by 80's Swans and not their post-rock revival. Same applies to Melvins, Neurosis, Napalm Death.
Soundtracks is absolutely a boring album FOR ME. I am not stating this as a fact. IT BORES ME. It feels like a collage of soundscapes that make absolutely no sense with some exceptions like Helpless Child and The Sound. Can you explain to me how such a focused album has whatever the fuck Yum Yab Killers is? It's not only a complete throw off it's also genuinely not fun to listen to."

Fuck yes it's boring. Music shouldn't be an endurance test but that's how it feels to listen to Swans. 140' collage of sounds with mostly no direction.
And Swans is not nearly as important as you're claiming it is. Music revolutions? They've been a niche band for all of their career with a small popularity surge on the last decade of the internet."

"@qualmerious I did see you gave up on Roll the Bones. I’d say you may find things to enjoy about Counterparts/Test for Echo (should have been one album consisting of booth’s highlight but still quite good) and Clockwork Angels is a phenomenal send off album specially the closing track.
