Kali Uchis - Sincerely,
89

A heartfelt piece of work by Kali Uchis, who in my opinion, hasn't made a bad album and continued with the momentum here. The production in tandem with he vocals makes for a very floatable experience. The songwriting is also filled with love and emotion and all of this together makes for an emotional project that's filled to the brim with love and vulnerability. Truly a thing of beauty (in summary)

This mixtape is one of if not my favorite thing to come back to so far this year. He just compiled a bunch of well made tracks on this thing man. Every track here brings something different on the table, asides from enjoyment of course. He has mentioned (I think) that an album will follow, so if that's the case and if what we see here is a semblance of the quality we'll see on the album, then we'll be in for a treat...

Very replayable piece of music(s) here

I rather like this album. The production is dynamic and alive, (not to mention versatile) and there is at least enough of a concept or idea to keep the album together. The album is also short so that every aspect of it doesn't drag, making it feel fresher and tighter. Albeit it was an ambitious project, there are definitely bounds she is capable of overstepping and I'm crossing my fingers that she dives deeper, to either play with more style or redefine conventions of pop overall in ... read more

Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

Don't have much to say, great project. Soulful and replayable. I just have to get over my bias of Ain't No Mountain High Enough before I can enjoy the album fully😅

Edit: My view of the album has definitely developed once I learnt the context. Essentially she was dealing with relationship issues which ended in a breakup. So the songs Back to black and Wake up Alone which were the most significant examples of the negative effects of this heart break. "You go back to her and I ... read more

Relistened to it and decided to leave my thoughts, 14 years late of course😅. The story telling is obviously masterful, from sherane to Compton, I also like how a suspenseful moment was established in the start of the album to create anticipation in later points of the album to create a sense of suspense equivalent to that of a cinematic film. I also love the insanely well crafted use of interludes to connect and transition ideas between songs without those narrative-tying interludes, we ... read more

While I most definitely cannot ignore the concept or at the very least the implication thereof, certain tracks do tend to fly in their own direction which can make it at times hard to keep up with themes or try to connect. I do like the concept of the radio station calls to further the narratives, I really do, it's just hard to keep up with some ideas at times and the execution could be sharpened a bit. The songwriting is definitely decent but could feel like something was missing, that ... read more

Bruno Mars - The Romantic

Where do I begin... The album is pretty decent in my opinion. I'm not a huge fan (or not a fan at all) of the repetitive somewhat uninspired songwriting that sounds like you could find it off a Bruno Mars project from 10 years ago. The lyrics are stale and at some points can sound like filler just to emphasise his singing to add to the theme and mood of the song or maybe something else ion know... I do like the tracks for the most part, the instrumentals are great, not revolutionary, but ... read more

Anything lower would be "melodramatic"
(Get it? Cause the album's name is Melodrama? I crack myself up sometimes).

Brent Faiyaz - Icon

So many years since he last dropped a project, delayed his release last year and that all culminated into the release of this here album. Was it worth the wait? I'm not sure but I can say for sure that if he took longer it probably wouldn't have been. But I don't even think it matters cause what he comes through with is actually rather good. I like the hybridisation of old school rnb sounds with his modern layered vocals, they help create a distinct style that covers this album. ... read more

Charli xcx - Wuthering Heights

I guess I like that she hasn't tapered off far from her momentum on brat. I especially liked the creepy-ish atmosphere that was emphasized in the second half of track one. After a 1st listen the songs Wall of Sound and Dying for You are my current faves. This album is also just well produced, I particularly remember worrying about my headsets being broken when listening to My Reminder😅. All of that aside this is a very solid body of work and I think it's gonna grow on me.

Nas - King's Disease

A decent return to form, while it's not as epic or quality as other Nas returns to form like Stillmatic and Life is Good, it's good enough that it has me excited for the rest of what Nas and Hit-Boy have in store for us for the rest of their run.
