Yellow Magic Orchestra: a band I have been obsessed with ever since my discovery. The way they consistently were putting out good material and the immense talent of every member adds up to be a truly unique group. Haruomi Hosono was a major player in Japanese folk music with Happy End early on, as well as having classics in his solo discography such as Philharmony. Ryuichi Sakamoto - the mastermind behind Thousand Knives, one of the most memorable progressive electronic albums of all time as ... read more
After Don’t Look Back in Anger it feels like nothing reaches the same level again as if the quality dips entirely.
*Nurture* is like being trapped in an endlessly open-aired and colorful Studio Ghibli electropop landscape, but the electropop here is boring
The Weeknd’s Dawn FM will be the first massive album of the year, and many people will love it, but listening to it, the album just feels pretentious to me. As if The Weeknd decided he’s going to move pop music into a futuristic, disco-inspired sound similar to that of vaporwave, but in a way that doesn’t feel much more special than every other pop album to come out in the past 10 years due in part to a vocal performance that didn’t feel fitting to me. It has some really ... read more
Short, but sweet
A throwback to classic funk and soul, but not outdated
Not overly innovative, but fun
Bruno Mars is an incredibly talented artist who has never reached the peak of his potential, until now. His combination with Anderson .Paak to form Silk Sonic makes for some of the most fun and smooth feel-good songs of this year. Everything is so smooth, as soul should be, and the name “Silk Sonic” perfectly describes the duo and this record as a whole. Only consisting of 30 ... read more
Logging into albumoftheyear to give another sad guitar man an amazing score again
Casiopea gives you a feeling of soaring and flying like no other with incredible bass lines throughout that keep you engaged with the music you hear. I listened to this all multiple times throughout my Hawaii trip and sitting in the car with the windows open taking in the Hawaii breeze while listening to this was an amazing experience
Jubilee is glimmering and shining yet a serene and joyful listening experience with some incredible tracks
THOSE LONG DAYS PASSING BY FROM THAT DOOR LIKE LATE SUMMER THEY SLOWLY FADE AWAY
Fresh and innovative progressive electronic album that makes it hard to believe it was made all the way back in 1978. It also features the classic title track 1000 Knives and the whole album is basically a lot of different sounds packed into one huge hypnotic experience
Perhaps I treated you too harshly
Original score:1/10
(Send help Rivers Cuomo is living in my walls with a gun)
Weezer had a… rough 2000s to say the very least. Releasing album hated by fans and album hated by fans one after another, they took a 4 year break at the start of the 2010s and struck back with the exemplary return to basics Everything Will Be Alright in The End.
If I remember correctly, Rivers Cuomo once said that all Weezer albums are good, you just never know what type of album they are going to put out. While he is way off on the "all Weezer albums are good" aspect of it, ... read more
Twenty One Pilots to me has always been pretty mediocre, never good, never abhorrent. I think Blurryface is pretty overhated and relatively fun, while Trench is also relatively fun but gets too much produced and praised too much, so I was interested in what they would do with Scaly and Icy, and I can’t say I was overly disappointed.
The first few tracks on this album are a lot of fun, however as we move along with the album it becomes repetitive and boring. On “Scaly and ... read more
