"She screams in the shower. Lost all of her power. Keep face, she'll leave no trace, not even in her home"
WHAT DO YALL MEAN THIS IS WHIMSICAL, THIS IS DEPRESSING AS HELL. When I listen to the singles, I didn't think this was going to quite surpass LFBH or FTFT, but honestly, it might have. This girls add a great storytelling spin on the lyrics, and the variety between them. They each have their own "opus" too, Tyler with "Nancy Tries to Take the Night" ... read more
“Sorry I don’t look like I’m having fun. Half of my joy has been used for the month”
I was worried that I had overhyped the album for myself, but when I listened to it, safe to say it met them. Genuinely such a fucking masterpiece. Hornet Disaster improves and builds on so many things from Come In. The production’s is a massive step up, and personally I think this cleaner style works wonderfully. Sputnik’s vocals are so emotive and passionate. Instrumentals ... read more
“History and future belong to the one percent, though”
Dead Channel Sky is a super fun and creative rap project. It does an amazing job at depicting a hyper-capitalist, cyberpunk society, both lyrically and sonically.
“Tears started running. One eye was happy. One eye was sad”
Great little side project. Sputnik’s vocals are wonderful on here, production is excellent, and there isn’t a single bad song. Really love how the last song is much more noisy than the other three
“Si solo mato el tiempo”
I know people are getting annoyed when people mention BCNR, but oh my god this is so derivative of anything from the windmill scene, especially BCNR and Maruja. Fortunately I love that scene, so I still think this is great. Many of the songs overstayed their welcome, and that is easily my biggest complaint. It also doesn’t really do anything different than the aforementioned bands. Fortunately the instrumental bangs, the vocalist is great, and ... read more
“Oh, you took my heart and lost it in your pocket”
Really enjoyable. It’s very similar to his stuff with Willy Rodriguez, but still adds an element of folk and surf to change it up. His voice is very emotive and powerful, and some of the bass lines on this go hard. It was a little short, but maybe that’s for the better. Overall really nice noise pop/folk album!
Abbressive, energetic and loud. Probably my favorite parannoul project released to this date. The drums are so crisp on this album, they cut through the mix so perfectly.
“And grief is just love with nowhere to go”
Diverse and eclectic production, ranging from glitch, to chamber. Georgia voice is wonderful too. Reminded me of Björk and FKA quite a bit.
“Pick me to the bone and see how nothing’s changed”
Thanks to @OwenAstro for the recommendation! This album feels very much like a spiritual successor to “Come In.” The first three and last track are wonderful. Amazing lofi, noisy production, and everything in the instrumentals sounds so good. Vocals are decent, nothing special. But my main issue with this album is that I just don’t feel much emotionally, despite it being a very emotionally charged album. ... read more
“I'm losing it, really feels like I'm losing it. Sad thing is I ain't doing nothing to improve this shit”
Wanted to listen to an Injury Reserve record before “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” in order to get some extra context, and I was NOT disappointed! This was a really fun mixtape for most of it, and then started to slow down and get surprisingly emotional towards the end. Track 10 and 12 hurt even more now with Groggs passing.
R.I.P. Groggs 💔
Goddamn. The most unique of the singles, going in a folk direction. Emotionally devastating. This album is going to wreck me, can’t wait
“Now you're romanticizing some pain that's in your head”
Incredibly emotional experience, especially for the year it released. Very melancholic and longing. Joni’s voice is gorgeous, nothing short of incredible. But the real standout of this LP is the songwriting. The lyrics in this are amazing, I had a ton of different quotes I was going to choose for my standout lyric, but then I kept finding a new one, which is why the lyric I ended up with is from the last song
“La luz en ti ya está muerta”
Thanks to the AOTY algorithm for recommending me this. Really enjoyable shoegaze indie rock album. Reminded me at sonic youth at some points, and some of the faster songs of HANL at others. I’m not gonna judge the lyrics cause I barely speak Spanish. Definitely underrated, deserves way more than 30 reviews.
“Oh, so kissable, making me feel miserable”
Solid Sputnik side project. Interesting direction, completely different from anything else I’ve listened to by them. Closer was amazing
“You think I'm on fire, but the fire feels like paradise”
Had a lot of fun with this album. Catchy, dance-y, and energetic. Production was amazing throughout the album, and Rebecca’s vocals and lyrics were both great. Only issue was that it may be a 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 derivative, especially from certain albums (𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 brat)
Absolutely beautiful and relaxing project. Everything is so soft, voice and instrumentals. Makes me want to just sit next to a lake and enjoy the sunset while listening to this
“What comes after this momentary bliss?”
Every single aspect of this album is nothing short of gorgeous. It makes you feel floaty, and it just feels so dreamy
“I am the best fucking fuck that you never will have”
Weatherday, CSH, BCNR, and Swans are all releasing this year? And all the singles have all been peak? I’m gonna cum. In all seriousness this single is really good. Everything I expected from it, very much sounds like live rope. First half is some ominous and intense drone, while the second half is honestly kinda… jolly? I really enjoyed both parts though, can’t tell which one more.
“Dream only a dream if work don't follow it”
I mean it’s fucking To Pimp A Butterfly, I don’t have much to say that hasn’t been said already. This is arguably the most important album of this century so far. Personally I prefer GKMC, but like this is still really good. Super dense album, so it might improve on relistens
