I wanted to listen to NNAMDÏ before he opens for Geordie Greep later this month, and I’m glad I did! This album is super underrated. A lot of variety, and pretty consistent quality throughout. Both his songwriting and vocals are great, but the highlight for me was the instrumentals. This album deserves way more attention
Extremely biased and there is a strong chance this will be lowered later, but like, this was crazy good. Every single song is so GOOD (Jet at 83 is a crime). I LOVE WEATHERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit: 100->98
Really solid noise pop album, but noting super special about it. I’ll need to relisten to this when the lyrics are translated, because they could be phenomenal for all I know.
Also I really need to listen to weatherglow at some point, like “come in” is one of my favorite albums of all time, why haven’t I listened to it
I liked it when mario went wahahahahaaaaah
It’s a fun project, nothing crazy, not gonna take it too seriously. None of the tracks I didn’t like were terrible, and some of the songs were pretty great (KissMeThruDaPhone). Overall I had a good time! Cover art is really ugly though
Wow. What an insanely dark and disturbing EP. Amazing soundscapes, and when the album calms down and goes back to the “Preachers Daughter” type stuff, it’s beautiful, especially the closer. Love the noise bits through the album too.
Score will probably change, not entirely sure my exact thoughts yet
Quite a bit better than the first one. Everything I said in the other review pretty much applies here. This one drags a bit in the middle, but the beginning and end are pretty great
Thanks to the recommendation from @brandonA! (took me way to long to get to it lol)
Probably the least harrowing and catchiest xiu xiu album I’ve listen to (besides whatever that last track was). Bangers all around, and still some pretty depressing and odd lyrics from Jamie as always.
Such an odd album, heart wrenching lyrics that are auto-tuned to hell and back, all over instrumentals that sound like presets. Definitely ahead of its time
This year I plan on rating every single album that gets 500+ ratings in the first week, this is the start
As for the album itself, it was hit and miss. Pretty disjointed too. Production was pretty solid throughout the entire thing, but I’m not too sure I like his voice that much
Edit: I give up on listening to every album above 500 already. Too many
Goddamn
This album fucked with me emotionally. The story behind the album and its two different meanings is devastating.
Really solid album. Maybe I should listen to more country, after listening to this and Magnolia Electric Co., might actually be a good genre.
Despite being a mishmash of a bunch of genres, the album flows quite well. Like full on metalcore and eletropop are on the same album, and it works. Main complaints are some of the choruses are kinda annoying and the lyrics can be pretty corny (but that comes with this kind of music)
Anyway I’m seeing her live next year! I agreed to go with a friend before I even heard very much of her music (this is my first album of hers), so I’m glad I liked it lol
4/100 is a little harsh, it’s pretty terrible, but it’s not THAT bad. It’s a cover of a 100/100 song so it gets some points for that.
If Birthing doesn't have a 1 hour long song of just Gira moaning, I'm rioting
In all seriousness this was such an insane album. Rope was a amazing droning intro. The new version of The Beggar might be my new SOTY. How they managed to turn a 10 minute song into the hour long journey that is that song is beyond me. I was never a huge fan of the original Hanging Man, but oh my god was the live version amazing. Away was a nice little song, and Birthing was almost as insane as The Beggar. ... read more
Decent pop, was expecting a bit more honestly. Might grow on me in the future
Edit: it did :D 77->93
Absurdly disjoined, but still pretty good. If this wasn’t directly after one of the best three album runs in music, it would probably have a higher user score. Overhated
Also Gira says “I am creaming” on the closer and I feel that’s not talked about enough
First DnB album, and was not disappointed. Beautiful electronic album, and “So Far Away” is literally peak (although that one is barely dnb)
