twenty one pilots - Next Semester

This song is quite different to anything I have ever heard from twenty one pilots, and it's quite nice. The chorus really shines here, and the slow down in the second half is great, but the verses can get a bit repetitive. I'm getting more and more hyped for the full album, and I'm hoping the quality stays consistent. I think what lowers my score a bit is the fact that I was expecting songs more akin to Trench (like their previous single "Overcompensate"), but I won't let that cloud ... read more

twenty one pilots - Overcompensate

Some cool, and a bit on-the-nose, callbacks to Trench and great production really make this track for me - the rapping/singing reminds me of Trench which is *hopefully* a good sign. The transition into the slow-down is great too. Pretty good opener to a continuation of their universe, light hype for the new album.

Kanye's return to music is no where near as exciting or interesting as his past work. Donda outpaces this album in almost every way, and even that album had its fair share of flaws. Many songs here feel incomplete and lack substance or new ideas and the whole album lacks consistency, however there are some interesting and fun moments in some songs like in "PAID" (although Ty's chorus is kinda funny lmao) and "PAPERWORK" - it's very manic and almost unlike ... read more

Imagine Dragons - Love Of Mine (Night Visions Demo)
86

If only this was on Smoke + Mirrors (if only Imagine Dragons stuck to this sound and kept improving it). This would def be top 1 on Smoke + Mirrors for me if this wasn't a demo, still a great song, reminds me of the good parts of Imagine Dragons.

Oliver Tree - Alone In A Crowd
38

Ever since Oliver Tree released Ugly is Beautiful, his music has had a fairly steep and rapid decline, with Cowboy Tears getting poor reactions from fans and critics. This album offers some improvement and a glimpse of potential improvement for Oliver, with some actual bops in the tracklist. Though, the direction which Oliver is headed is not something that anyone can anticipate at this point, having moved from one persona to the other, it would really be anyone's guess as to what he may do ... read more

Crywolf - widow [OBLIVIØN Pt. I]
83

Through Crywolf's captivating production and song structures, he is able to create an ethereal and cinematic experience that is both satisfying and varied in its sound. It's dark and mystifying atmosphere paired with some very soft and tender moments in the second half, as well as very powerful choruses all throughout the album, keep me hooked and coming back very frequently.

Dreams We've Had - Everything And You
90

Everything And You is a fantastic collection of dreamy and atmospheric soundscapes that leave a mark on your mind after they’re finished. From somber piano tracks with airy pads to emotional 6 minute dreamscapes, this album is fantastic at setting emotion. Any gripes I had initially about repetitive song structure were quickly forgotten as I got pulled further into the album by the glistening production and soft, emotional vocal performances. Listening to this album is pure euphoria - ... read more

Ethan Bortnick - happy f***ing birthday

Great song with great development - the swelling piano and distorted bass in the intro to the bridge really sold me on first listen, while the first drop is something I could describe as “setting the stage” for the second drop, which pairs glossy piano with glitchy and heavy drums to create a fantastic listening experience, and by far one of my favourites in a while. Now the main (and only) problem I have with this song is it’s ending - it feels too shallow and bland compared ... read more

brakence - hypochondriac
70

Brakence's passionate and enthusiastic performance along with the captivating production creates a nice glitchy-midwest listening experience. His voice and inflection is very unique and is a great part of the enjoyment for this album for me. I put off listening to this album for a while, and when I finally got to it I was fairly happy with its sound; though there are some flaws. Some of the lyrics (as many have pointed out) can be slightly cringy and/or over the top, this plus some of the sound ... read more

100 gecs - 1000 gecs
84

Addictive and out of this world. 100 gecs makes me think less about the substance of the songs, and lets me just enjoy the energy and ecstasy from the songs without feeling guilty for liking something this wild.
FAV TRACKS: MONEY MACHINE, STUPID HORSE, XXXI_WUD_NVRTØP_ÜXXX, RINGTONE, parts of GECGECGEC, HAND CRUSHED BY A MALLET, GEC 2 Ü
LEAST FAV TRACK: I NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY

100 gecs - 10,000 gecs
86

The genuinely intriguing and interesting songs contrasted with the funny and unserious nature of other songs intertwine into a great album by 100 gecs; can't wait for them to reach 100,000 gecs. The hook in Doritos & Fritos is amazing but the chorus of the song gets a bit annoying, and I Got My Tooth Removed genuinely made me laugh the first time I heard it because of how absurd it is.

Grim Salvo - Dolores
68

A harsh, aggressive and somewhat experimental EP filled with some very catchy and rewarding songs. The simple yet dark instrumentals (specifically the skeletal guitars used) carry this EP a little bit. The lows of the emo rap the vocals are dreary and feel very forced at times, but at their highs they're very passionate, aggressive and hook you further into the song.
FAV TRACKS: MOTH GRINDER, LURCH.LUNG, ERGOT
LEAST FAV TRACK: CHEMICAL PEEL FREESTYLE

6+/10

Imagine Dragons - Mercury – Act 2
28

Boring and generic pop music that goes on forever. At least some of the solos are nice, and the beginning of the album isn't too bad.
FAV TRACKS: BONES, SHARKS, some parts of other songs
LEAST FAV TRACK: I'M HAPPY

2+/10

Imagine Dragons - Mercury – Act 1
41

The first half of this album sounds actually decent, only for it to be ruined by the albums length and most songs past the first half being dreadfully boring. It's an improvement over Origins, but it isn't a great leap. The only bigger leap to be seen is the genre, with the concept of electropop being completely abandoned, which seems like a step somewhere, vaguely, in the right direction.
FAV TRACKS: ENEMY, WRECKED, MONDAY, CUTTHROAT
LEAST FAV TRACK: IT'S OK

Imagine Dragons - Origins
34

Most of these songs fall flat in sounding original, unique or fun, with some songs straight up sounding like an Imagine Dragons cover of another artist (Only is literally a chainsmokers song). At least we occasionally get a somewhat catchy and interesting song.
FAV TRACKS: NATURAL, MACHINE, BULLET IN A GUN, LOVE
LEAST FAV TRACK: WEST COAST (hard to pick just one)

Imagine Dragons - Evolve
51

I saw this album live in a concert, and it certainly confirms my belief that these songs were made with the thought of an arena full of people, which is still the notable feature of Imagine Dragons since their first album, which at this point has become stale. As a result, some of these songs fall flat in an attempt at a more electronic sound, and are quite boring. Despite this, some songs still do manage to be catchy, which causes it to narrowly push over 50 score.
FAV TRACKS: NEXT TO ME, I ... read more

Imagine Dragons - Smoke + Mirrors
78

Imagine Dragon's second album improves on some of the previous grievances I had with their first album, and return with their anthemic, massive choruses, with some good and catchy song structures. This album also has more confidence in leaning more into the rock part of the pop-rock music they make, increasing my enjoyment for this album even more. However some songs are slightly cheesy and over the top, as per usual.
FAV TRACKS: SHOTS, GOLD, I’M SO SORRY, POLAROID, FRICTION, IT COMES ... read more

Imagine Dragons - Night Visions
62

Night Visions has massive choruses perfectly curated for an arena full of people, however this album doesn't delve very far out of this sound. Despite this fairly repetitive song structure, Imagine Dragons were able to create some great and anthemic songs that became extremely popular for good reason.
FAV TRACKS: IT’S TIME, DEMONS, ON TOP OF THE WORLD, BLEEDING OUT
LEAST FAV TRACK: TOKYO

6-/10

Cemeteries - Barrow
86

Very atmospheric, distant and melancholic. The progression of some of these songs is beautiful, and the mix of instrumentals and reverbed and somewhat concealed vocals complement eachother gracefully, the perfect album to sit on your bed and wallow in sadness and float away.
FAV TRACKS: PROCESSION, LUNA (MOON OF CLAIMING), CICADA HOWL, I WILL RUN FROM YOU, EMPTY CAMPS, SODUS
LEAST FAV TRACK: CAN YOU HEAR THEM SING?
