clipping. - Visions of Bodies Being Burned
80

Great flows, beats, and atmosphere. Never listened to horrorcore, so this was a digestible introduction.

Jeff Rosenstock - HELLMODE
80

The beginning 3-track-run is fantastic, but the rest of the record becomes a little stale. From the small sample of songs I've heard by Jeff Rosenstock, he seems to shine brighter on the fast-paced, upbeat tracks.

Favorites: WILL U STILL U, HEAD, LIKED U BETTER, DOUBT

Porter Robinson - Worlds
95

This album stuck with me throughout college, and although I don't come back to it as often anymore, it's exceptionally special. Thank god for Porter Robinson.

Favorites: Divinity, Flicker, Hear the Bells, Sea of Voices, Fellow Feeling, Goodbye to a World

Porter Robinson - Nurture
100

Came back to this masterpiece after not listening to it in full since 2021. I have zero complaints about this album. Porter's introspective lyrics about maturing, meeting expectations, reaching goals, and appreciating the life we're given, speak to me in a way that not many artists can do. The soundscape he designed is incredible too, as if the natural and digital worlds merged into one. So many of these songs take you on a fantastical journey into his mind where gets vulnerable about his ... read more

Jane Remover - Frailty

Love that the sound of the album matches perfectly with the cover. The monotonous vocals are carried by wild and everchanging instrumentals which balance nicely with each other. A little too glitchy at times (kodak moment), but overall it's a fun listen that kept my attention for it's entirety.

Favorites: search party, movies for guys, champ, let's go home

Lana Del Rey - Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd
81

First Lana album I've listened to. Although I likely won't come back to most of these songs, I loved the marriage between her vocals and the piano across the album. The last 4 songs feel like they don't belong at all. I wonder what her thought process was when deciding to include them.

Favorites: The Grants, Did you know, A&W, Kintsugi, Paris Texas

Kero Kero Bonito - Time 'n' Place
91

If there were no vocals, it'd be hard to believe that this album was made by the same group that made Bonito Generation. Time 'n' Place wanes off the electronic sound and incorporates a lot of analog instrumentation. Sarah's lyrics are thought-provoking, philosophical, and the sounds regularly jump from gloomy to cheerful.

Favorites: Outside, Only Acting, Flyaway, Make Believe, Dear Future Self, Sometimes

Kero Kero Bonito - Bonito Generation
95

This album is loaded with simple, catchy choruses, many of which have nursery rhyme rhythms. Sarah's childlike vocals and the playful instrumentals provide a ton of nostalgia. Songs like Break and Trampoline are friendly reminders to return to a younger self, one with less worries and more dreams.

Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World
94

I found this pop duo because of a tweet that said "Magdalena Bay is just Britney Spears for hipsters", and I had to check them out. The lush production, silky vocals, and banging synths immediately grabbed my attention, and holy shit I've been listening to nothing but this band for three weeks straight now. Their melodies and instrumentals are perfectly curated, almost addictive. This is definitely my favorite pop album of all time, and I can't wait to see what they release ... read more

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
85

A somber and beautiful collection of songs about love and loss. Sufjan's lyrics easily puts the listener is his shoes, allowing us to feel and visualize his coming-of-age experience

SZA - SOS

Favorites: Low, Blind, Good Days, Ghost in the Machine

Steve Lacy - Gemini Rights

Favorites: Static, Helmet, Mercury, Bad Habits, Sunshine

Beach House - Bloom

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas

Kevin Abstract - Blanket

This was one of my most anticipated albums this year, but I’m pretty disappointed. There isn’t a single track that stands out to me besides Madonna because it’s super catchy. I wish we got more of his natural voice, like in Scream, rather than the pitched vocals and persistent autotune. I’m also not understanding what any of the horrorcore rollout had to do with the album? I didn’t get that vibe at ALL with the initial listen. Lastly, he should definitely change ... read more

I'm loving this, been on repeat since it dropped. If the rest of the songs are this catchy we're in for something special.

Paris Texas - MID AIR
92

They're so early in their career. The music will only get greater, and that's saying something. The jump in quality from BOY ANONYMOUS to MID AIR is incredible, and that EP isn't even bad. Proud of these dudes!
