Are people going to get mad if I say this is the worst Cardigans album?
I’m not trying to be a contrarian when I say that either; I think their albums are consistently great, this one included. But I really don’t understand why everyone thinks it’s their best, aside from that it’s their most popular. Pretty stunning album for the most part. The sound really distinguishes itself from any other Paul project and offers up some of my favorite songs of his in a long time. Though, it’s pretty reminiscent of “Back to the Egg” for me, in the sense that it could easily be one of his greatest albums if a few songs were snipped off. One of my favorite video game soundtracks; there are so many highlights on this thing.
Lena Raine experiments with many different genres, tones, instruments, and general sounds here, which happens to work extremely well. From synth, piano, orchestral, acoustic, glitch, rock, and more, it feels like truly nothing was left off the table. Later Alligator's soundtrack shows off a great range of styles, primarily featuring an organic, big-band feel. Overall, a cute, lively soundtrack that's consistently great, with nothing mind-blowing but nothing bad either.
Favorite tracks: Alligator Blues, Unsavory Part of Town, Seedy Gator Games
Least favorite: The random rave song I guess
