bill & ashtin have great verses and the beat is definitely pleasant. not bad at all! brokie totally throws off the flow tho imo

the finale to the long-awaited trilogy is here!! my personal favourite of the three - takes my favourite parts of act ii (the grand, synth sound) and act i (the non-stop energy) and puts it all into one!!
favourites: light's last stand, hold on, buried in the red
(goes down to 99 if The Fight isn't canon. i know sad endings is in classic protomen fashion, but if the trilogy has taught me anything, it's that hope is as reoccuring as death. im choosing to believe the revolution ... read more
Only grown on me with time. Sure, I prefer the jazzy beats and nerdier yet lighter lyricism of Ramona, but I also prefer that album to literally any other piece of music ever made. This is still one hell of a follow-up, and the switch in style is still amazingly appreciated. The concept of this album - building a spaceship and flying to the moon - is executed perfectly through how the soundscape of the album develops. The crunchier, heavier beats at the start on tracks like DoNotDisturb emulate ... read more
Favourite electronic album of all time. it's funny, I used to not like this guy's music at all based on the cover of maniac a while ago (which I've also since turned around on.) This compilation really struck a chord within me as I decided to look more into synthwave and house. The unfiltered intensity this album keeps up all the way through is insane, a high-adrenaline experience for its entire runtime. It just feels epic; the striking synths, the electric guitars on tracks like ... read more
A collection of colourful, lush and vibrant songs. An overall fun listen, though the back end of the album does begin to feel a little weaker. The standout songs to me include the vocal features, who do an amazing job. I understand the criticism of it being boring or underwhelming, and while that's something that didn't impact my listening experience too heavily, they're valid things to say about this record. For me? A great album, works for both relaxing and feeling energetic. ... read more
On my quest to delve into more rock, I've found another favourite artist. This album hits so hard, (more than Carnavas ngl) with emotional, hard-hitting vocals and tracks that build into an emotional masterpiece, ESPECIALLY ones like Growing Old Is Getting Old. Crazy that a show called 'Video Game High School' introduced me to this artist by using that song, lmao. Other favourites include The Royal We and Panic Switch.
Really didn't expect this one to hit so much. Stumbled along this when messing around trying to find the Hamilton soundtrack but an album cover like this is hard to ignore. Super glad I decided to actually give it a spin, because this really exceeded my expectations. In love with the production and sampling work here,, especially with how the vocals are used here. Writing is extremely high quality also. I do think the late-middle of the album has some lower quality songs, but nothing that ... read more
Wanted to like this one more, but unfortunately I continue to be too stupid for IDM. Not that it was bad by any means, I really appreciate the atmosphere the album creates. Perhaps I'll come back to this later with a greater appreciation for it. This album, sadly, just doesn't hold my attention like how I wanted it to. There are more emotionally engaging and profound downtempo albums out there for m;, I like the start and the end of this album significantly more than the middle ... read more

dont forget the art might be one of the best songs ive ever listened to tho hoooooooooly fuck

my more Introspective jvb bias is def showing in this selection but the hype stuff is super fun too
how can you improve perfection?
..you cant. but i still really enjoy this! missing a bit of the spice & variety in not only production but also flow from the first, though. some of these beats do sound pretty similiar overall, and while that base sound IS good, it feels like alchemist is playing it a little safe here.
still aoty so far. standout moment has gotta be anderson .paak on ensalada, that voice is angelic
