my bloody valentine - loveless
90

Always enjoyed the singles from this album but wrongfully assumed a whole album would be a bit *too* much shoegazing. I was WRONG! Honestly it's so good and one of those albums where everything just clicks into place nicely. Think the pacing of tracks 2 and 3 is a bit odd, but otherwise I really don't have many complaints.

Top Three Tracks:
1. soon
2. come in alone
3. to here knows when

Father John Misty - The Payoff

This is a seriously pleasant dream pop album that I've been enjoying listening to as I fall asleep. I initially thought it was quite tame for a David Lynch-adjacent album, but then the weird woodwind solo in I Remember happened lol. I'll probably be revisiting this for a long time and can see it becoming a bit of a classic for me.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Floating
2. Rockin' back Inside My Heart
3. I Remember

Judee Sill - Heart Food
83

I hadn't heard of Judee Sill until CMAT did her Pitchfork perfect 10. What a suggestion that turned out to be! I love the gospel piano and layered harmonies – just sounds lovely.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Down Where the Valleys are Low
2. There's a Rugged Road
3. When the Bridegroom Comes

My New Band Believe - My New Band Believe
77

I was really looking forward to this based on the three tracks they'd relased prior. Ultimately, it's a good listen and I enjoy some of the wacky production and interesting songwriting. However, I saw Cameron say in an interview that Love Story was the best song on the album, and I'd be inclined to agree that the rest doesn't live up to the single.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Love Story
2. The Blink of an Eye
3. Pearls

Angine de Poitrine - Vol.II
75

Fabienk is surely one of my songs of the year. I enjoy the album, and do think they're a very fun band. I just find my interest start to wain a little bit towards the end. Would still kill to see them live though!

Top Three Tracks:
1. Fabienk
2. Sarniezz
3. Mata Zyklek

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
93

Potentially one of my new favourite albums. This is my gateway into The Smiths, and I only really stuck it on because I have an original QID t-shirt from the charity shop and wanted to know more about the album lol. It seriously doesn't disappoint.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Cemetry Gates
2. The Queen is Dead
3. The Boy with the Thorn in his Side

Angine de Poitrine - Fabienk
90

I can imagine furiously head bobbing to this at a live show.

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
95

Have been meaning to listen to this for years and I am not disappointed. I can hear where 90% of modern dream pop comes from lol.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Frou-Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires
2. Cherry-coloured Funk
3. I Wear Your Ring

The Blue Nile - Hats
88

This album makes me want to look out over a night-time cityscape from my high-rise apartment.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Headlights on the Parade
2. The Downtown Lights
3. Saturday Night

My New Band Believe - Love Story
88

Wow this is the best of the three imo!

Mitski - Nothing's About to Happen to Me
83

Reliable as ever. I really loved the country influence from the last album, so I'm happy to hear it return here. I don't think it musically treads any new ground, but that doesn't make it unenjoyable. Also love the cat theme.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Where's My Phone?
2. In a Lake
3. Dead Women

Gorillaz - The Mountain
87

Wow I did not expect to love this album as much as I do. I've never been a huge Gorillaz guy, but was drawn in mainly by the Sparks feature - and I'm very glad I was! I enjoy this so much that even the pop and rap elements which I'm not usually a big fan of are still enjoyable. Feel like the hour run-time flies by, and I I'm not skipping anything. Nice one, Damon!

Top Three Tracks:
1. The Happy Dictator
2. The Plastic Guru
3. The God of Lying

Pixies - Trompe le Monde
90

Loved this album in my formative years, and I love it now! Definitely underrated when compared to earlier albums, and very sadly misunderstood imo.

Top Three Tracks:
1. Palace of the Brine
2. Subbacultcha
3. Letter to Memphis

Talking Heads - Remain in Light
86

Now THIS is an album to dance to. Absolutely love it. Also the opening run of tracks is simply unrivalled!

Top Three Tracks:
1. Born Under Punches
2. The Great Curve
3. Crosseyed and Painless

Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
84

A bit late to this one, but boy am I glad to have joined the party!

Top Three Tracks:
1. Under the Table
2. Ladies
3. Cosmonauts

Dry Cleaning - Secret Love
79

Stumpwork is one of my favourite albums of the decade, so Secret Love was always under pressure to deliver. Ultimately, I think it does. There's no doubt that the first half of the album is stronger than the last, however. I think some songs are nearly brilliant, like Blood and Cruise Ship Designer, but lack a bit of structure of dynamism. That said, The trifecta of My Soul / Half Pint, Secret Love (Concealed in a Drawing of a Boy), and Let Me Grow and You Will See the Fruit is simply ... read more

Mitski - Where's My Phone?

This album better live up to its album cover.

Father John Misty - The Old Law
