The Cure - Disintegration

There is a wound that existed before you were born, before anyone was born, that hovers just outside of view like a shadow, but is there nonetheless; it's that thing we spend our entire lives trying to avoid; it's that thing which creeps in at the corners during moments of crisis; it's that thing which motivates us to create art; it is the impetus for all of our combined gestures.

It is not death; it is a symptom of death. It is not love, it is a symptom of love. It is not ... read more

American Football - American Football

I'm a huge defender of Lp3. Its methodical prodding through an existential malaise struck me during a time in which I needed it. There's a stark, overwhelming beauty to a song like Silhouettes, which carefully cascades itself into a representation of disassociation and of a life accidentally and absentmindedly passed by. American football, at its best, uses the inherent melodrama of emo cliché to construct a striking sonic numbness without falling into mere aesthetic ... read more

Truthpaste - I Don't Know Either

I was extremely excited for this EP because to me Truthpaste is one of the more interesting up and coming windmill bands. Unfortunately I think on this debut ep, in an attempt to further their sound, they end up muting many of the beautiful idiosyncrasies that encompassed their first couple of singles in lieu of a weird eclectic maximalism that only sometimes works. Love Friendship is the Truth despite this, that might be one of my favorite songs from 2026 thus far.

Bull of Heaven - 004: Reasoning in State Hospital

Every bull of heaven record seems to me to be an attempt at encapsulating time. They never succeed of course (it was an impossible goal at the outset), but in their attempting they often create work that is all at once hallucinatory, monotonous, occasionally boring, and in this case: beautiful.

Friko - Something Worth Waiting For

Some truly wonderful highlights here that manage to effectively eschew a repetition of old indie rock trends that permeated their previous album (I'm thinking of Alice and Certainty specifically). I truly love when they lean away from indie rock and head towards a more eccentric, even baroque sound (the dual vocals that arise every now during those cuts are gorgeous too). But for the most part I'm finding that this album is yet another pristine, well produced indie rock album that ... read more

Ninush - The Flowers I See You In

Exactly in that vein of chamber pop I adore; there's a weird idiosyncratic joy to both the production and vocals that make the experience of listening incredibly beautiful. I do think that it succeeds better when it leans into the sparseness and rawness of almost toy-like instrumentals (I Don't Mind especially excels at this). I don't really like The End even though it seems to be the general favorite, I just appreciate quiet beauty over bombastic over the top theatrics.
