To me, just sort of a slightly more consistent but less memorable version of Fearless. fairly significantly more mature songwriting and instrumentals, albeit somewhat lacking quite as many of the heavy standouts that made Fearless stand out in my mind.
I think that as much as some people like to make fun of Taylor's writing, it definitely gets the job done for the most part. It's no where NEAR as good as her most diehard fans might seem to imply, but if I was a young woman and/or on ... read more
For what is essentially one song (even though it's pretty clearly segmented), "Uneven Compromise" hits on a lot of sounds and pretty dark topics.
My soul did leave my body for a brief bit during those last couple seconds though....Jesus...
Comes close to Peter Griffin saying "it insists upon itself," but I think it saves itself due to the fact that the lyrics really ARE all that layered. The intensely minimalistic and off-beat production does still feel a tad bit pretentious, but I happen to usually like pretentious music
Pretty diverse and out there collection of songs. Not really as structured as an actual album, but that's obviously not the point of a singles compilation
Production? Insane. Pair that with some pretty great conscious lyricism and you got yourself a BANGER from Fiasco. My first experience with him was his "Samurai" album this year, which I'm glad opened up the rest of his catalogue for me
Edit: 95-->88
Edit: I still really like this album, but I think after the initial excitement faded I can look at it a bit more realistically.
Constantly trying new things, Tyler has delivered what is probably my second favourite album from him and definitely the best Hip Hop album this year so far.
What stood out to me the most wasn't the amazing production or packed feature list (both of which are great), but how deeply personal Tyler got in his lyrics.
Despite the character of ... read more
So effortlessly fuses early punk with some traditional rock. It's all capped off by some amazing writing and performances from Smith
Tried a whole lot of different things and I think most of them worked decently well. The album was pretty fun, but even at a pretty brisk runtime I found that most of the aspects were stretched a little thin
I'm so glad that I listened to Raditude by Weezer, because now everything sounds better that isn't Raditude by Weezer.
It's actually a bit impressive how bad this album is. Cuomo's writing hits with all the finesse of a semen-filled napkin, making for probably some of the worst song-writing I've ever heard. The production is BEYOND uninspired (the Dr. Luke special), turning every song into a repetitive slog
the eponymous "raditude" that the title promises ... read more
really really solid showing from 50 Cent. The beats are all really good, and the "Gangsta Rap" sound/flow combo formula works really well here
Bon Iver is a BIG deal in my family. Both my siblings love him, and they got my mom into him who absolutely ADORES Bon Iver now; far more than any of us. I was the last to finally come around and listen to Bon Iver, who I now also really enjoy.
This (or technically the single for S P E Y S I D E) is the first release from Justin Vernon as Bon Iver since I started listening. It's obviously quite the short release, but I enjoyed the little crumb of Bon Iver content quite a decent bit, ... read more
Unhinged ass vocals and some real solid Alt Metal. It plays around with genre a bit less than my first Visual Kei experience, but the album still has a healthy variety in sound
It's different, messy, scattered, and they ALMOST manage to fully pull it off.
I don't mind a good switch in genre, so that's not the problem. My problem is just that they don't fully "commit" to it. After some acclamation, I actually really like "Turnin' On the Screw," but it feels like that kind of synthier Hard Rock didn't really stick around for all of the songs.
The mixing is also slightly questionable at times, but it contributes ... read more
