It's actually pretty catchy and fun and well-constructed but you will NOT catch me bumping this in public EVER
I've heard Julian Casablancas with autotune before and I know it can work. It doesn't work super great here. The mixing is also quite atrocious in some circumstances. I think that "Square Wave" is the worst example of both of these issues; It also might be one of my least favorite songs of the year so far.
Despite all these things, I don't actually think the album is... terrible? It's by far the weakest Voidz album, with some of the safest-sounding experimentation ... read more
Honestly could be among the most unique albums I've heard. It asks: "what if we made 2000's animated tv show themes into actual music?" and it BANGS
Lennon was always the most conceptual and experimentally thinking of the Beatles, so it's not much of suprise that his music is sort of "headier" than his fellow band members solo careers. The song writing is definitely the highlight of the album. Musically, it goes in some interesting directions but it's more rooted in minimalism than some of the Beatles later works
I feel like this is what Tally Hall fans THINK their music sounds like.
"A Dense Swarm of Ancient Stars" is a very fun and quirky project that doesn't quite overstate it's quirk or gimmick to the point of being intolerable (like Tally Hall). It brings something new to the table every song, and most of those ideas work quite well. I can't help but be apprehensive of any "lo-fi announcer voice WeLcOme tO the CarNivAl" type element, but I Monster manages to tow ... read more
Back when Coldplay actually tried, they TRIED. It really is quite good. It's easy to forget how sweeping and emotional Coldplay can be when they want to be, and this album benefits from the height of their creativity
Honestly? Not too bad at all. The production is some of the best that Toro has sounded, and the performances are decent enough for the most part. Emo Rap isn't maybe the ideal direction for Chaz to go in, but it works well for what he sought to achieve on "hole Erth"
Peak for Yourself
Critics are apparently allergic to having good opinions, because this is literally incredible. This solo effort is one of the most ahead-of-its-time Electropop albums of the 2000's and Imogen deserves all the praise for making this herself
If I was one of the Justice guys I'd be making out with the other one after making this from how proud I was that we created this banger
Solid enough, but it's filled with a few too many holes to really land favourably for me
One of the few great albums that I think DOESN'T sound the same as it's cover art at all. The cover promises moody, atmospheric, and reflective folk. The actual product is a vibrant and engaging rock album; a much better outcome in my opinion.
This album is better than any full Beatles album and I'll stand by that. The fact that such quality was kept up over such a titanic runtime is a testament to George Harrison's creativity and talent. I was not bored during any of the ... read more
Who knew Sufjan Stevens and Electronic music could go together so well? I didn't, and I was incredibly pleasantly surprised by "The Age of Adz."
Given time, I wouldn't be shocked if this album edged closer and closer to Illinois for me in terms of my fav Sufjan albums
Still a pretty solid album, but the stronger emphasis on Slowcore made it not work nearly as much as Fraility for me
Textbook example of a simply "good" electronic album. There isn't a ton that stood out to me outside of the regular "cool atmosphere" that comes with the genre but I also didn't have much of anything to complain about either
While many might see this as their "selling out" record, I think it's still VERY very solid even if it moves away from a lot of the light Emo elements that they incorporated on earlier albums
The highs are actually pretty enjoyable and charming. I like some of the songs quite a bit, but most of the songs don't do nearly enough to differentiate themselves or stand out. Relistening to Lorde's Melodrama right before listening to this really put's Jack Antonoff's production fall-off into perspective, but I do genuinely believe he was good at producing at some point. The album IS pretty short as the title would suggest, but even at 36 minutes, many of the tracks feel ... read more
Not the most complex production I've ever heard, but it's hard-hitting and really catchy
Drunk and Hot Girls by Kanye West stumbled and fell on it's face so Drunk Girls by LCD Soundsystem could run.
Another banger by the Dance-Punk legends. A bevy of electronic sounds and textures are layered so effortlessly into some amazing sounding and sprawling songs. I think that over time, the more focused and hook-centered elements of "This Is Happening" has won the album over for me compared to "Sound Of Silver;" an amazing follow-up
