The winter wind blows, a police car's sirens blare in the distance, and a leaky tap is running. It's winter, and then it's summer.
A large handful of fragments of ideas that probably need their own share of space to grow that they don't get
This shit HITS. One of the most significant and transformative albums in Metal and Hard Rock that really stands the test of time more than so many others at the time. Everything about this album screams iconic from housing some of the all-time most recognizable Metal classics ever, to the dark and trippy album cover that perfectly encapsulates the vibe of "Paranoid"
I've never really liked Donald Glover in any of the mediums that he's pursued. He gets praised a lot for doing all these different things, but I don't think he particularly excels in any of them. When acting, he just plays the same character (himself) every time. I do quite like Atlanta, but most of the good writing on that show was done by his brother, anyways. And finally in terms of music, I've never been a big fan.

Honoring the tried and true tradition of gay anthems being made by straight women. I found myself finding it a bit hard to believe Beyonce saying things like "world's at war, low on cash" when I don't think she's even seen a poor person in over a decade.
Even if some of the subject matter isn't coming from a place of genuine heart, you could almost fool me with how much she sells herself on the songs. The energy is absolutely through the ROOF the whole runtime, ... read more
I didn't like LCD Soundsytem's Self-Titled all that much. On the contrary, I think that Sound of Silver is absolutely incredible. At first, I thought my lack of enthusiasm towards the Self-titled was maybe just different expectations, but going back to it, I still think it falls short as compared to Sound of Silver.
It's honestly hard to place exactly what makes this record so great. It seamlessly blends genre on top of genre, creating this perfect amalgamation of punk and ... read more
crazy wild sick Digi Hardcore Hip Hop project that uses every second of it's 18 minute runtime.
Some people use songs with nice album covers to make a good playlist aesthetic and I think this album art has the opposite effect. Having this image on your Spotify Playlist is detrimental to you looking cool
Sounds like the 2000's in the most nostalgic sense. I really love the amount that was done with relative simplicity. based off of the first song, I was expecting to find the vocals really annoying, but they luckily became almost nonexistent as a problem after that
Wasn't familiar with Fontaines D.C. or any of their music until this year, but just based on the hype surrounding the album and it's singles, I've been excited for it too. I think it's safe to say that it delivers. It sounds like Post-Punk that easily could have been released during the genres peak with how well it fits with some of the best mood-heavy rock that's out there
Edit: 87-->93-->98
Mercurial World may still house some of the groups hardest-hitting bangers, but Imaginal Disk is infinitely more consistent. It took close to the whole run-time for it to fully settle with me into the place it is now, so a second listen will no doubt only improve my enjoyment for it
Edit: Unsurprisingly, I have an even higher regard for Imaginal Disk now after another listen. Every synth beat feels so deliberate and meaningful. Moods and tempos are balanced perfectly, ... read more
You know the band is cooked when the drummer is the most famous band member.
I don't like Pop Punk all that much, and I certainly don't like the vocals that sort of sounds like self-parody at this point. At the same time though, the instrumentals are pretty fine. Repetitive? yeah. the drumming is really phrenetic and punchy, which I liked. Outside of that, not a whole lot of note that isn't now considered a standard for the genre.

very deservedly seen as a classic. The production is near flawless, produced by...yeah that figures...
The approach to less immediately marketability did wonders for "The Blueprint" and it's enjoyability for me. People talk about "Not Like Us" as being a catchy and well-produced diss track, but "Takeover" used one of, if not THE best beats on the album with a sick ass sample from The Doors to shit on Mobb Deep and Nas.
Lyrically, I do find The Blueprint to ... read more
NFR IS Americana. Lana Del Rey is really, really great and capturing a sort of idealized and vaguely retro vision of America into her aesthetic. To me, some of her earlier albums were really only touching on what "Norman Fucking Rockwell!" perfected.
Lyrically, it's about as personal and filled with cynical romanticism as any Lana album, but I felt a lot more drawn to her writing here than anywhere else. I think what really sets NFR apart is it's sound. I was really ... read more
The album opens with this long, enormous, grand, and sweeping opener which does a pretty good job of summing up the rest of the album. "The Joy Formidable" does a fantastic job of blending in Shoegaze with traditional Indie Rock sounds that brings out the best in both while minimizing the problems I tend to have with the genres. The album was constantly exciting and engaging, while still maintaining it's own distinct identity
GOD do I love "Queen" it's SUCH a good song!!
Dooooon't you know your queeeeen
a victim of just being a "vibe" more than anything else. I didn't find much of anything to be particularly stand-out, but Toro is great at crafting that retro Synth Funk sound. That specific brand of music may be verging on tired and overplayed, but it's welcome enough to me still that I don't hate it
I put off my Kanye discography listening after Jesus Is King really drained me and any desire to keep listening to Kanye's later music. I figured I'd finally give Donda a listen and..... it's not terrible?
It seems like it goes without saying that Kanye's production is going to be great, which it is on Donda. It isn't as standout as the beats in his prime, but, as much as I hate to say it, Kanye can manipulate and turn out samples in a way that doesn't sound like ... read more
A group I've seen live before actually listening to the material of. Generally, bloated Psychedelia records are a recipe for boredom, but I actually found myself really enjoying Diiv's "Is the Is Are." It's dreamy qualities work really well, and I can honestly say I didn't feel too bored while listening
