Easily becoming amongst my personal favourite rappers and producers in the modern super underground scene. While his flow and writing game is very good, I somewhat hesitate to praise the lyrics. Yes, they're mostly really based, but I see inklings of kinda questionable political takes that I don't want to get wrapped up in. The curse of leftism is to never agree with each other it would seem smh
Even if I didn't like it as much as Nurture, I still found the earnest songwriting to carry a bulk of the album into still being pretty good
Thank you Spotify auto-play for introducing me to this music made by a jaw-droppingly gorgeous woman <3
It isn't an all-time great or anything, but I think it's a bit absurd to say it's "bad." The uniquely abstract kind of industrial sound creates a super memorable listening experience, and I feel like the rapping performances can usually keep up, even if they aren't always super standout
what I wouldn't give to be in high school, sitting in a garage making music that sounds like this with my friends
Really emotionally-charged and raw, hard-hitting Post-Punk. I think generally the album could have benefitted from a more concise runtime in the 30 minutes range, but still a pretty good listening experience
Wow.
For the first time, I thoroughly enjoyed a Billie Eilish album. It strikes a really great balance between the tone of her two earlier albums. It's not as clubby as her debut, but it has a healthy Synthpop formula that really really works.
It's also really nice to see so many huge artists being very openly gay in the pop scene this year
Incredible care was obviously placed into the craftsmanship of the album to ensure it's more than JUST a surreal concept album. The production is consistently amazing, floating along as an acid jazz dream. all the features don't make the album feel any less like a cohesive story, which is handled pretty well all things considered. "Little Dominiques Nosebleed" is creative, engaging, and concise in a way I don't see often
So I spent my Sunday at the Osheaga music festival. Among the acts I wanted to see that day, RAYE was one of them. I really only knew her from one or two songs, but I liked what I heard and she had a pretty good reputation.
One song into the set and she has to stop due to "severe weather warnings." It was a single strike of lightning in the distance. I needed to head across to the other stage for Kevin Abstract, so I didn't have time to wait and see if she'd come back on. ... read more
It is interesting seeing the evolution of Peggy's sound. His earlier stuff was way more electronic and minimal production-wise, whereas his newer production style has that way more maximalist and sample-heavy approach. I'm way more partial to this newer JPEGMAFIA stuff, and "I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU" is no exception. from the electric guitars to folksy acoustic strings, the production is near-flawless. Peggy's lyrical flow has also improved significantly overtime, ... read more
During the 1960's, America was going through a time of relative prosperity. It also sucked, with segregation, homophobia, and female subserviency, buuuuuut you can also look at it as a time of fights for civil justice, right?? anyways, despite all that, America for straight, white, people was in a pretty good place. okay, well the Vietnam War was going on so that sucked, too. Look if you're straight and white and also rich THEN America probably seemed pretty cool. The second World War ... read more
White woman indie music on steroids. This is what white people soft indie TRIES to sound like. Coming back and revisiting a couple more times, the better qualities of the album shine through brighter and brighter. The production is so elegant and jazzy and beautiful and Clairo's voice carries through this gentle and calming presence
Beautifully written and composed; Definitely a testament to how great country music can be.
This is really only my second full album I've listened to considered to be in the "Country" genre. Appreciating folk, it really isn't all that hard to make the leap to Alt-Country and other adjacent genres. I'm glad I gave this album a listen, as it's just so effortlessly soothing and heartfelt
Just like the listeners of the music, the album undergoes a cool transition part-way through
