While I completely understand WHY this album gets praised so heavily, I can also feel how heavily commercial-friendly this album feels. Marketability isn't inherently a bad thing and the album is still incredibly catchy and well-produced, but I just can't feel as strongly about "Thriller" as some other albums that I've heard
Production is a major step up from last year's "Let's Start Here," However I did find that Yachty's autotuned vocals were much more noticeably annoying. I do think that Yachty had some good performances, but I honestly probably would have preferred the album if it was just James Blake
Was quite surprisingly blown away by AURORA's newest album, considering I had only known her prior from that one catchy song that sampled Coconut Mall. I'm incredibly bored of Bedroom Pop in the indie scene, so it's incredibly refreshing for Indie Pop artists to go the more ambitious and experimental route
One of the rare instances where doing something else while this played in the background probably actually made it better. It doesn't do anything unique or boundary-pushing, but it's a solid enough entry into the House music scene. Pleasing on the ears; in the case of this album cover, pleasing on the many many ears
A more New Wave-centric album that may be a bit lighter on standouts compared to other St. Vincent projects. Im honestly impressed that one of my less favorite albums from Annie is STILL as good as it is
Moving Backwards from the JVB duo's newest album this year, the production held up just as well a year prior. The breakbeat and Eurodance inspirations really give the group a unique sound, giving more than enough credence to their distinction from the Beastie Boys. The performances are still bursting with energy, rhyming just as many (if not more) questionably topical internet refences.
I still ate it all up just about as much as on "No Hands" which, being the newer album, has ... read more
I know nothing about DJmegan23, but I know that there is a negative-percent chance that they are cis
Some awesome stuff shines through, but "Boy" tends to fall into some cliches and stereotypes of the genre that curb a lot of creativity and interest in the album. It definitely stands (somewhat)tall on the shoulders of others in Electropop, meaning that 2hollis makes contributions that feel less significant in comparison
Initially just wanted to check out because of then neat album art
Looking at the reviews, it seems like there are two receptions to this album:
-Those who can tolerate Emo/Pop-Punk really like it
-Those who can't? They don't
I'm the second one
Like always, El-P keeps his beats top-notch and his lyrics conceptual
I might not be religious, but the 1 and 1/2 hour long Christian, Southern-American Post-Rock Shoegaze got HANDS
One second I'm just sitting in my room and the next second..... these streets ain't what they used to be, toots....
MAYBE Midwest Emo can be good
I love me a good Post-Rock album, and THIS is a good Post-Rock album. The 6+ minute song lengths justify themselves
Maybe I hate men now too.....
The queen of Jazzy Pop's (generally considered) most iconic album; a title it definitely earns. Not only is the songwriting so pointed and poignant, but the music really varies quite a bit. Slower ballads marry with faster-paced bops to create THE Girl-Boss album
Whereas with an album like Illmatic, I can acknowledge it's quality without being super drawn to it; Ready to Die provided an incredibly enjoyable hour. The Sampledelic funk production underscores some truly incredible story-telling, with each and every song having a distinct idea, purpose, and flow to them
maybe my biggest "I don't get it"
I'm willing to give "Transatlanticism" the benefit of hindsight Instrumentally. It doesn't do anything interesting or new to ME, but it also came out over 20 years ago so at the time it may have been more unique.
To me, the lyrics read like middle-school poetry . It's like they
1. took a basic idea or emotion
2. Added some flair to make it seem more important than it actually is
3. Sometimes didn't even bother adding more interesting ... read more
