Did I expect to have a good time? Yeah, I think so. I did NOT expect to vibe with this album as insanely heavy as I did. I physically could not STOP myself from moving the entire half-hour runtime. The rapping is good. It's great in some instances, but good LORD does the production just go so. insanely. hard.
You can say what you want, but Joey Valence and Brae are waaaaaay more than some novelty act
BIG big improvement from her debut. Takes a far less rough-around-the-edges, base heavy approach in favour of a polished, light sound. The album is way more lyrically dense and introspective, covering some really personal subject matter in a mature manner. I did still find myself a bit underwhelmed by just how restrained the music felt, but Billie is obviously still finding her sound
I was NOT ready for the wave of sheer brilliance that Paul's Boutique brings to the Hip Hop world.
I feel like in the current era, Beastie Boys are largely seen as more of a sort of novelty act with some massive, cheesy hits. In reality, Paul's Boutique is a perfectly crafted love letter to rap music, packing so many amazing lines delivered with that signature Beastie Boy energy. There's also a couple bits of poorly aged content, but It was the 80's, after all; what can you really ... read more
Has the possibility to grow on me a lot, but even still it's definitely some of the best Synth music that the 80's had to offer
Keeping the creativity of album rollouts alive, paired with the best music of Charli's career so far.
I was surprised by how intimate and personal Charli got, which made me appreciate the album even more
I may be a man in my 20s but maybe sometimes you just wanna feel like a teen girl going through her first big heartbreak
I feel like I've been handing out a lot of 90s recently, but I just keep listening to BANGERS.
Clarence Clarity's NO NOW is Sweet Trip with a funky R&B twist that spends one hour delivering mind-melting track after mind-melting track
Voodoo sits in a very similar lane as Nas' Illmatic for me. Musically, I could definitely see it described as "perfect" from the buttery smooth vocals to the excellent production. Despite all this, I just don't feel all that drawn to the album. I think Neo-Soul just doesn't strike me as much with the more repetitive, Hip Hop inspired instrumentation
Actually, I was born to googoo gaga and peepee in my diapee, mr. Springsteen
Scary. Almost terrifying at a couple points. I'm not sure how much of this album is earnest Christian sentiment or rather some odd form of evangelical parody. Either way, the lo-fi taped aesthetic, haunting vocals, and bizarre distorted audio interjections create one hell of an experience
Unstoppably laid-back atmosphere, great rapping, improved version of Donda's album art
I thought that she couldn't make music any better than I've already heard. I continue to be proven wrong
St. Vincent's self-titled LP is a near-flawlessly executed Pop and Rock album, taking the formula she has ran with throughout her catalogue of music and perfecting it further and further
Edit 96-->100:
Can't stop listening. St. Vincent (the album) really acts as a summation of everything great about St. Vincent (the artist). The distorted guitars, the sort of ... read more
One of the best, if not THE best album of Hip Hop instrumentals I've ever heard IF you can even call them that when each song is a marvel of music production
Dudes named Louis really know how to make some good jazz. Can't forget to also credit Genevieve Artadi, who provided some great vocals
It's really sweet. If you've heard The Smiths or The Cranberries, you've heard this, but I still think it does some good stuff
"How do we cover up the boring music and lackluster writing?"
"Ah just put some vocal distortion on it and call it a day"
So going into this having heard their newest album this year, I had high expectations. I don't want to say that Vampire Weekend's self-titled didn't live up to those expectations, but it sort of didn't quite do it for me. Don't get me wrong, it's got lots and lots and lots of personality, but it feels... lacking, somehow.
I don't particularly love the lyrics, but that isn't a huge detractor. My biggest gripe, I think, is just that the songs tend to sort of sound the same. That sound IS good, ... read more
The first new release from twenty one pilots since I listened through their whole primary discography. It's about what I would expect, with some nice sprinklings on top. There's some genuinely amazing and really catchy songs like Vignette and Navigating... and then there's Backslide. I do not like Backslide.
While some greatness peaks through, Clancy is just slightly bogged down by some classic "twenty-one-pilotisms." Some boring stylistic choices, really weird vocal choices, and a ... read more
Could have been a 100 if it didn't have that one segment that sounded like doo doo plopping into a toilet
