I used to fall asleep to this cd every night, it holds such a special place in my heart. It so beautifully captures the balance of love and grief, to me.
I Will Follow You Into The Dark is such a sweet, beautiful, classic-feeling love song, and probably among my most listened to songs of all time.
What Sarah Said would be too if it didn’t so brutally tear me apart emotionally.
Besides those two, I especially love Your Heart is an Empty Room, and Brothers in a Hotel Band.
Most of this album is not super memorable especially compared to some of her absolutely iconic later work, but damn it is so much fun. Such a strong debut imo, and I adore the extra heavy dancehall influence was in her early stuff
My top three are definitely Pon De Replay, That La La La, and Now I Know.
She is such a skilled storyteller, so many things about this album are truly immaculate to me. She expressed a lot of emotional complexities about moving on from brat and I gotta say… she really topped herself with this one. I’m torn now I want to see the movie but I fear it will not hold up to the soundtrack…
