I get that they are trying to churn out playlist material to fit that pop punk vibe, and they do an amazing job of it - but it's just getting repetitive. They have making slight departations from the sound they usually put out (i.e. Madeline in GK3), but not nearly enough. Listening to the entire EP should yield greater emotion than listening to each of its parts separately, and that can only be accomplished through variation. Is Good Kid writing for cheap gamers and their playlists, or for ... read more
The album that started it all.
Seriously, every time I listen to this album, there is nothing I want more than a physical copy of it. I am dying because I couldn't snag a copy at the concert I went to.
Peak psychedelic rock.
This LP is such a pleasant, diverse jumgle of psychedelic music. There is so much good to say about this gem.
It sounds like People Taking pictures pulled the background music out of the abstract realm of a fever dream - it existed there in the background, inexplicably comforting, and was brought into the tangible world for us to enjoy.
The lyrics also touch on a lot of existential themes, which I absolutely love. I wish more music existed like this.
What a find. Thank you, spotify AI.
Rosenstock never misses.
It's definitely not at the same level as some of Half Alive's previous works, but I'll give it a pass due to its calm atmosphere.
Is it Now, Not Yet material? No way. Does it beat Conditions of a Punk? Probably.
I've never wanted to like an album so much, but been let down in such a way. Half Alive are the ones who really started my interest in music with Now, Not Yet, and I can't help but feel that their sound is on a decline.
They can still make decent tracks, but this album feels extremely cluttered with tracks that don't add any value. Out of this hour-long LP, there are only a handful of tracks that really pop. It's undesirable to listen to it whole.
Furthermore, a lot of the good tracks in this ... read more
What an interesting find.
I'm semi-new to the Pavement scene, and this album has cemented them (pun intended) as a solid source of that 90s indie feeling.
Spit on a Stranger is such a strong opener. You Are A Light has such interesting verses and such an awesome chorus that it tops the list for me. Another worthy mention is The Hexx, which is a roller coaster of diversity that I've never quite seen before.
Overall, a good listen that is likely to lengthen my 90s indie rock phase. I'm excited to ... read more
I have always liked Dayglow's Harmony House, and unfortunately, this LP does not meet the same bar. It has its moments, such as the clean, groovy Deep End, but there is a clear disparity between the better tracks and the worse ones.
When I first heard a teaser of Deep End's chorus in 2022, I thought this album would be a killer. Deep End certainly lived up to this, but a lot of the tracks that came after it didn't.
Of the tracks later released exclusively in the LP, my favourite has to be ... read more
Love the feeling of this EP. Osmosis is a really good one. However, as others have pointed out, the sound is very repetitive.
In fact, when I needed 6 minutes of music for a video project, I was able to stitch together two Good Kid songs and they sound almost like one continuous track.
On a positive note, Good Kid makes all of their music available copyright-free, which makes it perfect for applications like these. Their website even hosts downloads for all of their music.
A really nice Indie album.
Everything from Drop the Guillotine to Not Me slaps. Techno Show and Chagu's Sideturn, among others, are fun to drive to. The songs are full of fun riffs (especially the chorus of Alrighty Aphrodite) that you just can't help but repeat in your head forever.
This is the song that first got me into Ginger Root.
Easily one of my faves of this genre.
An interesting listen. Would recommend.
Conch and Dogs are the best tracks for sure.
