Snooze! - You Move, I Move
100

Ok. Time for the review of You Move. I Move. I like the title A lot.
Anyways let's talk about the record. First off, how this 15-year-old, now 16, was able to write such a deep, emotionally laden, record like this, is beyond me. When I was 15 and 16, I was building forts in my garage, riding dirtbikes, and hanging out with my friends at the park. Apparently not Snooze. Let's think of another 15 year old rapper that can do what he's done, and do it as well as he does. Yes ... read more

Snooze! - Esteem Pt. 1

Ah, the new Snooze track. Dude's on some personal shit, and I can dig it. Lyrically pretty awesome. Great production! It's definitely on another level, some new school shit. I totally get it, I appreciate art, I appreciate authenticity and all that. At the end of the day, it's just a little slow for my tastes as a rap song, but that's just for my taste. It certainly doesn't have to be a banger to be a great track. It does what it's supposed to do. Everybody has ... read more

Snooze! - Lord, I'm Starving

Ah. Another gem from Snooze. One thing you can say about him, he never seems to put the same track out twice. This is one of his less serious tracks. Kinda funky(great, bouncy production), and a playful delivery from Snooze. Then you got Detoxify whom shoot verses back and forth with Snooze. He's definitely a talented cat as well. Hell, maybe they'll be the next RTJ? Can't wait for the mixtape. Cheers, DOP

Snooze! - Wide Awake
100

Snooze, aka The GOAT, the Major Pen, is neck with a new single, Wide Awake. I'm really loving it. First off, the production by A-Bomb is great! Cool Gil Scott flute sample. I was thinking the sample was off his record Freewill, but I may be wrong. It also sounds like it may be in an odd time signature, but again, I may be wrong. It's definitely a very unique delivery, but very listenable at the same time. Catchy af chorus too. I'm dating myself here, but the production ... read more

Night Flowers - Wild Notion

Jesus. I literally cannot stop listening to this record. The first thing I bought from these guys was their first vinyl single called Glow in the Dark. It was awesome. It was exactly what I needed at the time. I think I bought it about 10 years ago. I don't know where I read about them, but when that single came out, I snagged it. They were kind enough to sign it and from then on it, I waited for these guys to put out a full record. Well they eventually did, and I bought everything that ... read more

I am old. I remember buying this when I came out. And to be perfectly honest, I listened to it a few times, I really liked it, but for some reason I was always distracted by it other bands and other records. But the thing is, I always return to this record. I just never get sick of it, and every time I return to it, I think to myself, "I really need to listen to this more". I listen to this last night as I was falling asleep. It's just a great record.

Rod Modell - Northern Michigan Snowstorms

I honestly didn't think this would be on this site, since it just came out, and Deepchord(and their solo projects), sell out fast, so i didn't think anyone had it to review.. Glad it was!
Deepchord are one of my favorite artists from Detroit. They(HE, now Rod Modell) never disappoints. This is a solo record by him. Ambient, beautiful, field recordings, static, night noise, snow storm sounds, lake waves etc. Those are all the skins of Michigan that I've heard for the for the ... read more

Snooze! - Dior 5s (THE RIVETING SEQUEL; Directed by the Late &/Or Great Avey Sommer)

Wow I didn't expect this. First off I've always loved this song when it first came out, just a few lines were really hard to hear unless you are reading them. But it was still good. But Avery comes back switches the game and changes everything up and makes it perfect. This is freaking great. Avery's production killed this freaking thing and fixed all the mistakes. I love it!! I love everything about it, and I love the synthesizer line in the background being used as sort of the ... read more

Sufjan Stevens - Songs for Christmas
85

I remember my kid writing a nice review of this last season. I figured I'd keep it short as he already said everything that I would say. Great cd. 5 cds may be exhausting for some, but it's Christmas, it's OK to overdo things. Eating. Drinking. Being nice to others. Relaxing. Taking time off work to spend with the ones you love, and play Christmas music. Cheers and good will towards men.

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Christmas Caravan
99

Amazing how this Christmas record doesn't get highly rated reviews on here. This thing is always in my Christmas listening repertoire. It's perfect. Not a bad track on here at all. They hit many styles on here, and they do em well. Swing, Rockabilly, jazz, etc. This is most definitely a must have for anyone for the holiday session. Trade in your Josh Groban, Michael Buble, and Mariah Carey for this.
*interesting footnote: The guitarist's great Grandpa recorded a Christmas ... read more

Quincy Jones - The Dude
90

1980 classic! This radio absorbed this record. We all know that Quincy is a genius producer, see Michael Jackson. Would there be a Thriller without Quincy? Nah man. But before that, there was The Dude. It came out just as Disco and 70s funk was on its way out.
His songs certainly had an element of both, but he was venturing into New Jazz/Jazz Fusion, or maybe we can call it Adult Contemporary Jazz Fusion. I wasn't a massive fan of it at the time because I though it was too sterile. I ... read more

My top 50 songs of all time? Yup. Maybe top 25. Being not too far of from collecting Social Security, I remember the radio playing this when it came out. Maybe 1976? 77 possibly?.
It's dreamy, it's pretty, the singing is top notch. Even the lyrics are pretty darn great for a love song. Music will sadly never sound like this. We've entered the digital age unfortunately. Oh well, we still have this to look back on. Now let me go grab a tissue...

Snooze! - COME HOME SOON
96

Ok. First off, congrats to the boys @snooze for winning track of the week. And probs to @Lincoln for his production. Real cool! Now let's talk about and dissect this track.

I assume everyone associated with Snooze know what this track is about, but if you don't, it's about his friend that is in jail for murder. He's a fucking child, so it's sad. From my understanding, his girlfriend lied to him about getting sexually assaulted, and he killed the guy for retribution ... read more

Snooze! - Perfect Place to Get Jumped
100

Finally, a proper record by Snooze! Well, almost. It only clocks in at 25ish minutes. Too long for an ep, too short for a record.
I've heard half of this. So I'm not going to keep getting into redundancy here. But I'll be quick.

Digits is fucking great. I love Repercussions, but it's a little too scratchy and crackly for me, and the Gil Scott-Heron sample sometimes overpowers the vocals. But I can live with it. It's better than it not being there.

Autechre - L-event

Autechre, in my opinion, are the most unique sounding musical outfit that ever walked the earth. Also, they are the most challenging to listen to. Nobody could ever sound like these guys, and I'm sure most people wouldn't want to.
Radiohead, even at their most experimental, sound like Katy Perry after you've heard Autechre. This EP is no different.
The first track, tac Lacora, sounds like an angry, robotic snake slithering down a bumpy , metal well. The next 2 tracks, offer ... read more

Kanye West - Late Registration
95

@snoozeybro has been bugging me to review this, so here's the review!

I've always had a soft spot for Late Registration. Sometimes this record is my favorite record, the other times it's twisted, depending on how I feel I guess. It's probably because I've heard late Late Registration first. Okay, let me whine about one of my annoyances with hip-hop. It's the goddamn skits. I don't know when it started, but I think around Dr Dre Chronic era. Wu tang did them ... read more

Snooze! - Digits

I'm always looking forward to Snooze tracks. I know him very well haha, but I'm not at all being biased. I knew this would be good for sure, but he always exceeds my expectations. Dude just kills it. How an early teenager can have these clever lyrics/wordplay, have such a clear delivery, is beyond me. Even the production is catchy.

It's killing me, because I can't think of what that flute sample reminds me of. Tribe? Slum Village? Digable Planets? Maybe De La? A track ... read more

Lil Timmy Crouton - In The Hood pt. 3

Been waiting on this for a year. Hearing it for the first time, I started to tear up. This shit is deep. The is on some next level conscious hip hop shit. The meaningful lyrics grip you like an angry pit bull. When DOP tells a girl "the only thing she's gettin is........." and the D Boyz respond with the answer, you can't help but see the unfettered beauty in their response. I won't spoil it.. The D Boyz are back, but yall never knew they were gone, did ya? They ... read more

Avey Sommer - Now!!!

Another Avey record here, no, not Avey Tare, Avey Sommer. Actually, this record sounds more like Avey Winter.. There isn't an iota of Summer here...it's dark. It's cold, yet at some parts, it's comforting, like a fire on a winter's night. Honestly, those are the parts that I like most.. I'm am such a fan of ambient music, that you probably don't want to bring it up to me m, or I'll talk about it for hours. Anyways. Back to the rest of the ... read more

"Nah. She just re-released singles with an acoustic version on the B side. No rereleases. I refuse to buy it because I know in a month there's going to be the anthology, so I'll wait for that. But God damn if Eldest Daughter isn't a great song."
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@TornadoDog33 I think one of the biggest questions we need to ask ourselves regarding Christianity and God and all that stuff, is is there really free will? Not so much, as God already has everything planned in programmed. What I find really mind boggling, is that God is omniscient omnipotent, as in he's always there and he knows what's going to happen to everybody in their future. And he allegedly made all of us. So basically he made us flawed and he knows some of the people he made are going to go to hell, so it's almost putting these people through torture anyway, your verse was great, and so was Snooze's.. great messages and great for calling out corruption!"
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@TornadoDog33 I personally don't find anything redeeming about the Bible personally. Yeah the Psalms have some nice messages and such, but aside from that, not a huge fan. Then you have the Christian crusades, but that still going on, just in different ways. And then it comes down to every religion has a God and every religion has a book, and every religion thinks that they are the right one. I think at the end of the day, if you can be a good person just to be a good person, without religion or anything, then you're doing okay. Then you have crazy stories in the Bible like Noah's ark. Obviously that never happened. The story was stolen from the book Epic of Gilgamesh."
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@TornadoDog33 No, I got ya. Everybody can believe in something, obviously that's their right, and as long as they're not hurting anybody, it's not a problem. But when leaders as well as non-leaders, use Christianity as some sort of veil to cover up money laundering or killing or raping, or whatever, then that is some straight hypocritic shit.. I think the Bible's kooky. Too much rape, too much killing, too much hate. Even God orders killing in the bible. I don't know the exact number, but somebody actually went through the Bible and counted how many people God killed, and how many people Satan killed, and God killed like millions and Satan killed like 10. And 4 o those people, God let him kill, the Book of Job, you probably know this story"
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"Oh I get it. My only gripe of Christianity is it aligns itself with the bible. The Bible is full of rape and murder etc etc. So yes, as a whole, I think it's a pretty awful organization, but when you get to the Catholic church, that is as low as you can go. But we all know the history of it so..."
On NaShFort's review of Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"Oh, and it's amazing how somebody that doesn't know these people personally that have given snooze High ratings, yet they know for sure that they are only giving him high ratings to make him feel good lol. Yeah because this clowns of mind reader right? Lol. It's like me saying, yeah I know he gave Kendrick Lamar a high rating just so he'll feel better. Unbelievable"
On NaShFort's review of Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"Dude's a clown. I went to see his reviews and it's a bunch of who gives a fuck crap artists. Yeah he likes to pimp a butterfly, who doesn't though? Of course it's a good record. Little Reezy and all that other stuff is pretty awful, average, and arrogant. Hate that shit. Want to know how those artists can improve? By writing deep stuff that actually means something to somebody. That would be a good start. And I also think that it says a lot about somebody when their taste in music is myopic at best. I'm pretty sure the people that gave snooze good ratings will listen to his records more than once. That right there says that they were not lying about their High ratings."
On NaShFort's review of Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@NaShfort so what did or didn't you like about the record that you gave it a 46 rating? And yeah, you're right. Nobody in the world can make good music unless they're popular. So if somebody isn't popular, they should just give up making music. And if you pick up a guitar for the first time in your life or you sing for the first time in your life, you should just give it up, because you aren't popular at that second. 😀 I saw a group called Animal Collective before they even had a record out. There were about 15 people in the audience including me. They weren't popular at all. I don't know why I bought all their records that they've been putting out for years lol"
On Snooze! - Wide Awake
"@lincoln and hey, I read all these reviews and comments, and I can't remember who said it, but somebody mentioned the beat doesn't flow with the song, that's absolutely not true. It's probably somebody that's not massively familiar with abstract rap or conscious rap or whatever the hell you want to call it. I mean we can make 4/4 boom bap, Kick Drum, bass drum, snare drum,808 drums with record scratching like Run DMC all day long, but it gets boring quick. I'd imagine the person that made that comment probably isn't familiar with much Hip Hop outside of the Sugarhill Gang and Run DMC and stuff like that. I enjoy it all, but I also enjoy abstract Jazzy complex rap. If you're a huge fan of hip hop, you got to know your history, and love it all"
On Snooze! - Wide Awake
"@lincoln Oh shit. Sweet. I'm glad my ear was on the money. I had a feeling I was right on both accounts, but I didn't want to sound too cocky like a know-it-all. And so you know, since I listen to all your guys's stuff and I'm very familiar with it, probably more than anybody, your production is getting light years better than eject you started out, that's not a diss, that's just saying, we all start out somewhere and grow. But yeah, great great production on this track."

"Not at all. I don't mean clear. It's hard to explain. I really need to stop saying that because that's not what I mean. The same thing is I'm not a music producer, so I don't know how to explain it. What I do know is one of the most grimy records are fantastic damage and when you listen to it, you can hear the vocals and they are not clear but they are clear if that makes sense? And look, almost everybody loves your music who hears it. But every single person is trying to give you constructive criticism on the mixing. It's really a small thing, but it's a very important thing. I promise one day you guys will understand and you will realize you can mix but still sound experimental and abrasive and all that other shit."

"If I ever wanted to cry, it would be by listening to the song. It's fucking beautiful. I'd be curious if you only listen to the first minute or two of the song because the vocals don't come through till after a few minutes. Anyway, I think you should recheck it out"
On lincoln's review of Flashpapr - Flashpapr
"This song encompasses being young and in love. The way that it builds up with the violins, the lyrics, his delivery, this song encompasses what it's like to be young Take this lyric: " listening to the spinning wheels, you can't sell the way it feels to be in love". OR "Sweetheart, alphabet, don't forget how lucky we really are". " you are my best friend, you are the most beautiful thing, I keep inside my heart". I have probably played this song hundreds of times. That doesn't count the times where I grab my guitar and I just play and sing the whole song because it's comforting. You're a kid, maybe when you're older, you will realize how lucky it is to be young and experience love. I implore you to give this song another chance."
On lincoln's review of Flashpapr - Flashpapr
"@Lincoln with all due respect, I think you're very wrong on this one. Your rating is fine, that's not the problem, but I'll tell you what, I think one of the best songs that Fred route, was free rides on the bus. I honestly would stand by this song as one of the top five best songs that he ever wrote. Now granted, I saw him play with these guys a little over 20 years ago, and at that time, I was listening to a lot of innocent, melancholy music, so it was an easy sell. This song encompasses being young and in love. The way that it builds up with the violins, the lyrics, his delivery, I mean this song encompasses what it's like to be young and in love. I mean God.
