Bright Eyes - Lua
99

I remember when this came out. Lua is a single from a record that wasn't released at the time. It's a song about drug addiction, eating disorders and depression I think. Great song. Well Whiskey is getting more upbeat, and it's great! I woke up with......is another another catchy track. The whole record is really perfect. True Blue is just cute(dumb word, but it works. Conor fits the word BLUE in every line! Now that's talent. This is a perfect EP that any lover of indie rock/folk/great ... read more

Sam Beam - Love Letter For Fire
87

Ok. So if I see a cd from a label that I like that I don't have, or if I see a cd from an artist that I like in a used cd bin for $1 or 2, I just buy it usually, without knowing what it may sound like. This is one of them. So I'm a big Iron And Wine fan, aka Sam Beam, so this was a no brainer . I've seen the name Jesca Hoop, but I've never heard her music. Oddly enough, this record fell under my radar for some reason.
I bought it at a music store in Vegas a few months ago, so I decided to ... read more

George Jones & Merle Haggard - A Taste of Yesterday's Wine
90

Look. You want to hear Country music? Then turn the fuckin radio off. That shit is crappy pop music. Country music isn't made with drum machines or in a studio, digital recorded and annoyingly polished to the point that it's sterile sounding.
This is country. Beautiful stuff. George Jones is one of my favorite artists of all time. Most recognizable country voice ever.
If you dont know the story already bc you're not a country fan, or you're under 60, George Jones loved to drink. Waaaay too ... read more

The Beatles - Now And Then
84

It's nice that The Beatles, though half dead, have a new "found" song from the.vault. Pretty neat. I'm not going to over-rate this just because it's a new Beatles song. It's nice. Nothing amazing. It could have been thrown on Let It Be, and it would have fit in. Let It Be was a good record, not great. Now compared with one of the other "found" songs called Real Love, it is nowhere close. Real Love is an amazing song!! This song? It's pretty good.

Taylor Swift - folklore
99

Sick fucking record. This is probably going to be Taylor's masterpiece. I really like TS, even her poppy stuff. I can't really like her 1st record, but I can dig Teardrops on my guitar and Tim Mcgraw.. Her fake country voice was a little contrived, but I do love those songs. After that, her catalog kept getting better and better. Love Red. Love 1989. But this...... fuck man. Just perfect. I remember buying it and being swept away. No Shake It Off type songs here. Nope. And sure, every song ... read more

The New Dawn - There's a New Dawn

Look. We can all agree that Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, etc were part of the beginnings of the Psychedelic era... Saying this, many great bands fell between the cracks. The New Dawn is one of them. Very obscure, sadly. This is one of the rarest psych lps from that era. I think that only a few hundred were pressed. I own the cd(hard to find sorta, but it's around).
It's real fuzzy replete with firey organs, muddy guitars, spooky harmonys.... It's unfortunate that all these ... read more

The Sundays - Static & Silence
100

Oh man. The wife/husband duo that is The Sundays can do no wrong for me. Harriet Wheeler's voice is one-of-a-kind and David Gauvin's guitar has a crystalline quality that resonates like a Sunday night rainstorm in the summer whilst sitting with the one you love. Dude's guitar playing is so original.
This is their swan song sadly, but it's a great way to go out. This record brings bad so many memories from my past. If you catch me on the right day and I'm listening to this, mine eyes might ... read more

Basic Channel - Octagon / Octaedre

Deep ass dub music from Germany's highly influential electronic artists. One of the best duos to ever walk the earth. Detroit techno loves them, and they love Detoit techno. Anything
either of these guys touch, I buy. Basic Channel/Maurizio, will never let you down.

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
100

I remember when this record came out, it shook the music scene. These guys from Manchester put their debut lp out and it was on everyone's record of the year list. Perfect blend of pop, psychedelic rock, jangly guitar, classic jam rock, etc. They paved the way for many bands like the Verve, Oasis, The Charlatans, etc. Ian Browns lazy vocals juxtaposed with Chris Squiers' jangly make way for a perfect record. Fuzzy, catchy, jangly and stoned. I'll love this album forever.

Northern Picture Library - Alaska
100

Side project of Bobby Wratten(The Field Mice, Trembling Blue Stars, Lighting in a Twilight Hour, etc) with ex-Field Mice member(and ex-girlfriend of Bobby Wrattten, Anni-Marie Davis). Man, that's a lot to write!
Always been a fan of anything that he touches and still am. This , for me, is a perfect record. Heartbreaking, but comforting. From what I know, he had Anni-Marie Davis sing the lyrics that he wrote about her, and he sang lyrics from her point of view, and vice versa. The record is ... read more

@Snoozeybro So unfortunately, like with many amazing records, it is not on AOTY, so I have to make due. The record that I'm reviewing IS by Variant, but it's not this one. It's Variant Vortexual Element Seven, part of his Element series. It's a perfect 61 minutes of time, space, life, beauty, birth, death, and the meaning of life. By a miracle Slumber, I have 2 copies. I have one for you

DJ Rolando - Jaguar

Wow, I finally found it. See my review on the Aztec Mystic mixtape... that way I don't have to copy and paste the review.

DJ Rolando - The Aztec Mystic Mix
100

First off, the only reason I put this record up to rate even though it's a mixtape, is because it has the song I was looking for that isn't on this site. DJ Rolando-Knights Of The Jaguar. I guess nobody ever submitted that song. What a shame.
That song is the top five quintessential Detroit techno songs. It is perfection. The only reason I thought of it, is because I walked home from work today, and it's a perfect night, there's a nice breeze in the air, no humidity, the sound of swishing cars, ... read more

System of a Down - Toxicity

Ok. My son told me that I should not just rate records that I like, that I should also rate other records that I've not heard, so here goes.
So I've never really listened to this band, though I remember when the video Chop Suey came out. All I remember is the singer really annoyed me in the video. And I remember the music being jittery. This was many moons ago; Im old. Anyway, recently I saw two System of a Down cds, and they were 99 cents a piece, so I figured I'd grab them and see what's ... read more

KISS - Dynasty

Ah. Kiss-Dynasty. One of the first Kiss records that I've ever owned. Probably my favorite Kiss record, though some of that has to do with nostalgia. I've probably listened to this over 100 times without exaggeration. Ok. Let's review. Oh, yeah I know most Kiss fans hate this record, I'm aware.
So yes, I Was Made For Lovin You is trying to capitalize on the Disco trend at the time, but they do a pretty good job of it. After that track comes 2000 Man. Probably one of the best Kiss songs of ... read more

The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen

One of the best records ever from the 1990s. Top 100 of all time. Sexy. Powerful. cool. Sleazy. Perfect. Attitude. Lust. Love. I will give each of my kids $50 cash a piece if they can memorize this record and sing along to every song. I'm not kidding.

Frank Ocean - Blonde

So I'm a physical music guy. Cds. Lps, etc. I was vinyl before vinyl was cool haha. Now, anybody can buy vinyl, just go to Wal-Mart. It annoys me that everybody got rid of their record collection, but now, everybody wants vinyl. It's way too trendy now, but it is what it is. Sorry about my non sequitur thoughts. Back to reality. Oops, another casualty! Ok. Anyway... there is a point to my rant...

Ive been looking for this cd for a long time. They didn't make a lot of these, and when you were able to find one,
they were expensive. I finally was able to grab one without breaking the bank. Ah.... Molly Drake. Never heard of her? Most people haven't. Does the last name Drake sound familiar? Yup. It's Nick Drake's mother. She is the one that placed the seeds of music in his brain. So let's talk about her music.

Ah. Lucia Pamela. I remember buying this record ages ago. This girl is either absolutely nuts, or some sort of music genius. Either way, I'm a big fan of it. So she has said in her songs that she visited the moon. Maybe she has, as her songs are spacey. She plays all the instruments, pots and pants, whatever she can get her hands on.
This music is unexplainable. Just listen to Walking On The Moon, and you'll see what I mean. She lived a long life, but she only put out this record ... read more

"Nah. She just re-released singles with an acoustic version on the B side. No rereleases. I refuse to buy it because I know in a month there's going to be the anthology, so I'll wait for that. But God damn if Eldest Daughter isn't a great song."
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@TornadoDog33 I think one of the biggest questions we need to ask ourselves regarding Christianity and God and all that stuff, is is there really free will? Not so much, as God already has everything planned in programmed. What I find really mind boggling, is that God is omniscient omnipotent, as in he's always there and he knows what's going to happen to everybody in their future. And he allegedly made all of us. So basically he made us flawed and he knows some of the people he made are going to go to hell, so it's almost putting these people through torture anyway, your verse was great, and so was Snooze's.. great messages and great for calling out corruption!"
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@TornadoDog33 I personally don't find anything redeeming about the Bible personally. Yeah the Psalms have some nice messages and such, but aside from that, not a huge fan. Then you have the Christian crusades, but that still going on, just in different ways. And then it comes down to every religion has a God and every religion has a book, and every religion thinks that they are the right one. I think at the end of the day, if you can be a good person just to be a good person, without religion or anything, then you're doing okay. Then you have crazy stories in the Bible like Noah's ark. Obviously that never happened. The story was stolen from the book Epic of Gilgamesh."
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@TornadoDog33 No, I got ya. Everybody can believe in something, obviously that's their right, and as long as they're not hurting anybody, it's not a problem. But when leaders as well as non-leaders, use Christianity as some sort of veil to cover up money laundering or killing or raping, or whatever, then that is some straight hypocritic shit.. I think the Bible's kooky. Too much rape, too much killing, too much hate. Even God orders killing in the bible. I don't know the exact number, but somebody actually went through the Bible and counted how many people God killed, and how many people Satan killed, and God killed like millions and Satan killed like 10. And 4 o those people, God let him kill, the Book of Job, you probably know this story"
On Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"Oh I get it. My only gripe of Christianity is it aligns itself with the bible. The Bible is full of rape and murder etc etc. So yes, as a whole, I think it's a pretty awful organization, but when you get to the Catholic church, that is as low as you can go. But we all know the history of it so..."
On NaShFort's review of Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"Oh, and it's amazing how somebody that doesn't know these people personally that have given snooze High ratings, yet they know for sure that they are only giving him high ratings to make him feel good lol. Yeah because this clowns of mind reader right? Lol. It's like me saying, yeah I know he gave Kendrick Lamar a high rating just so he'll feel better. Unbelievable"
On NaShFort's review of Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"Dude's a clown. I went to see his reviews and it's a bunch of who gives a fuck crap artists. Yeah he likes to pimp a butterfly, who doesn't though? Of course it's a good record. Little Reezy and all that other stuff is pretty awful, average, and arrogant. Hate that shit. Want to know how those artists can improve? By writing deep stuff that actually means something to somebody. That would be a good start. And I also think that it says a lot about somebody when their taste in music is myopic at best. I'm pretty sure the people that gave snooze good ratings will listen to his records more than once. That right there says that they were not lying about their High ratings."
On NaShFort's review of Snooze! - You Move, I Move
"@NaShfort so what did or didn't you like about the record that you gave it a 46 rating? And yeah, you're right. Nobody in the world can make good music unless they're popular. So if somebody isn't popular, they should just give up making music. And if you pick up a guitar for the first time in your life or you sing for the first time in your life, you should just give it up, because you aren't popular at that second. 😀 I saw a group called Animal Collective before they even had a record out. There were about 15 people in the audience including me. They weren't popular at all. I don't know why I bought all their records that they've been putting out for years lol"
On Snooze! - Wide Awake
"@lincoln and hey, I read all these reviews and comments, and I can't remember who said it, but somebody mentioned the beat doesn't flow with the song, that's absolutely not true. It's probably somebody that's not massively familiar with abstract rap or conscious rap or whatever the hell you want to call it. I mean we can make 4/4 boom bap, Kick Drum, bass drum, snare drum,808 drums with record scratching like Run DMC all day long, but it gets boring quick. I'd imagine the person that made that comment probably isn't familiar with much Hip Hop outside of the Sugarhill Gang and Run DMC and stuff like that. I enjoy it all, but I also enjoy abstract Jazzy complex rap. If you're a huge fan of hip hop, you got to know your history, and love it all"
On Snooze! - Wide Awake
"@lincoln Oh shit. Sweet. I'm glad my ear was on the money. I had a feeling I was right on both accounts, but I didn't want to sound too cocky like a know-it-all. And so you know, since I listen to all your guys's stuff and I'm very familiar with it, probably more than anybody, your production is getting light years better than eject you started out, that's not a diss, that's just saying, we all start out somewhere and grow. But yeah, great great production on this track."

"@snoozeybro the only thing that ever steered me away from him, is the comedy stuff. I assumed since he was a "comedian", that he wouldn't be able to make serious music. You know, it's like Jim Carrey putting out a break up record or something. It wouldn't be taken seriously. But yeah, this dude was somehow able to pull it off"

"Not at all. I don't mean clear. It's hard to explain. I really need to stop saying that because that's not what I mean. The same thing is I'm not a music producer, so I don't know how to explain it. What I do know is one of the most grimy records are fantastic damage and when you listen to it, you can hear the vocals and they are not clear but they are clear if that makes sense? And look, almost everybody loves your music who hears it. But every single person is trying to give you constructive criticism on the mixing. It's really a small thing, but it's a very important thing. I promise one day you guys will understand and you will realize you can mix but still sound experimental and abrasive and all that other shit."
On lincoln's review of Flashpapr - Flashpapr
"If I ever wanted to cry, it would be by listening to the song. It's fucking beautiful. I'd be curious if you only listen to the first minute or two of the song because the vocals don't come through till after a few minutes. Anyway, I think you should recheck it out"
On lincoln's review of Flashpapr - Flashpapr
"This song encompasses being young and in love. The way that it builds up with the violins, the lyrics, his delivery, this song encompasses what it's like to be young Take this lyric: " listening to the spinning wheels, you can't sell the way it feels to be in love". OR "Sweetheart, alphabet, don't forget how lucky we really are". " you are my best friend, you are the most beautiful thing, I keep inside my heart". I have probably played this song hundreds of times. That doesn't count the times where I grab my guitar and I just play and sing the whole song because it's comforting. You're a kid, maybe when you're older, you will realize how lucky it is to be young and experience love. I implore you to give this song another chance."
On lincoln's review of Flashpapr - Flashpapr
"@Lincoln with all due respect, I think you're very wrong on this one. Your rating is fine, that's not the problem, but I'll tell you what, I think one of the best songs that Fred route, was free rides on the bus. I honestly would stand by this song as one of the top five best songs that he ever wrote. Now granted, I saw him play with these guys a little over 20 years ago, and at that time, I was listening to a lot of innocent, melancholy music, so it was an easy sell. This song encompasses being young and in love. The way that it builds up with the violins, the lyrics, his delivery, I mean this song encompasses what it's like to be young and in love. I mean God.
