I was seriously expecting to hate this— It’s label as symphonic black metal made me a bit worried as typically symphonic metal harbors some of the cringiest, generally obnoxious metal bands i’ve had the displeasure of hearing. The whole album feels surprisingly hopeful, particularly within ... read more
Another album in my swans journey, and let me say this-- they haven't disappointed yet. Almost all of their projects are uniquely amazing. This project dips into the more cultish, abrasive, and generally extreme chanting that their later albums are more known for. Knowing this, this album still has it's more noisy elements from earlier projects. To be completely honest, this is up there among my favorites of their work. toward the end it feels so genuinely rattling, like i'm ... read more
